So the last couple of days I have had this pain in my crotch area. It's on the left side right around the corner where my pubic hair is. This morning it was noticably swollen & a little painful. I felt around but didn't feel a lump or anything. I am also fighting a cold. I have a sore throat but no other symptoms at the moment.

Are there lymph nodes in that area that could be swollen? Could it be related to fighting off the cold? How long would you wait to talk to a doctor?

I first thought of a varicose vein, but there are lymph nodes all over the body, so that may be a possibility... I found a diagram online of the pelvic lymph nodes.

From your description it sounds more on the surface than a lymph node would be, plus you said you didn't really feel a lump, which I think you would feel if it were that.

What about irritation from something you wore, or have you recently used a new detergent? The obvious question: did you dtd recently enough to cause a slight abrasion or something? It could also be a hair follicle that's irritated, or "ingrown" though it might be more localized in that case (and again, you might find a lump).

As for it being related to fighting a cold, our bodies react in many sorts of ways so it is possible.

As far as seeing a doc, I'd guess that they won't have much help to give, other than using ice or another method to soothe it, keeping it clean and dry. If it gets any worse, or lasts longer than a few days, you might want to have someone take a look.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Do you mean in the groin area or in the vulvar/labial area? If it's in the area of the vulva/labia, could be a bartholin's glad cyst. The gland that lubricates the vagina/vulvar area can get plugged up and fill with fluid. You just get lanced and that's that.

If it's the groin area (i.e. just regular skin), I have no idea!

Is it a clogged hair folicle? I got those a lot with DD because my underwear was too tight at the end and I was to cheap to buy new underwear. If it is the beginnings of a cyst a heat pack is a good idea.

I originally thought it was a plugged follicle. But the swelling is worse than that. Sort of generally, rather than in one tight spot.

The swelling is in this area: PIcture the triangle of hair "down there". The swelling is on the left side sort of near the top, left corner. would that be considered the vulvar region or the groin area?

During my last pregnancy I had what I and my Midwife thought was a Hernia. It was on the left of the V-Pattern of pubic hair and caused one side of my frontal pubic view to appear really swollen.
What really made me think it was a Hernia was that when I'd lay down it would sorta sink back in.

After several months of pain and discomfort, especially when standing, we decided on a ultrasound to be absolustely certain (I was planning a HB and wanted to know because of some slight risks etc associated with Hernia's).

Turns out it wasn't a Hernia but a cluster of super swollen blood vessels...I forget the exact name, but they were harmless and dissappered almost immediatly after birth

Not sure if tis is the case with you, but I thought you could use the experience cause you never know
