Yes! I work for the federal government, and there is a program within my agency (and several others, that I know of) that allows you to bring your infant to work until they are 6 months old. I actually bring DD in for one morning a week or so even now, since everyone misses her and asks after her so much.

I took 2 months' maternity leave, then brought her with me for those 4 months. I had a separate nursing room, and she hung out in her sling or slept in her bouncy seat by my desk most of that time. It was really wonderful.

Now I work from home 3 mornings a week, and my neighbor across the street (a SAHM of a 3 y.o. boy) has my daughter the rest of the time. It works beautifully.

I'd be more than happy to share details of my workplace agreement, if anyone wants to try to craft one. It worked out so well, even with the fact that my daughter is "high needs".

I work in public broadcasting, which is a more touchy-feely industry than most. I work in the office about 3 days and WAH the rest of the week. Sometimes I bring dd into the office if I just have to come in for a short meeting.

She's 13 mos and usually trashes the whole place, but luckily my co-workers don't mind...she's really cute after all. I definitely couldn't do it if I actually had to stay in the office and get work done.

I took dd to work from about 2 months to 6 months; she was with me all the time I taught (one on one and very small seminars). Then we had the summer break. So she started daycare at 9 months. I still have students and colleagues ask if I'll bring her around!

I felt really fortunate, because I couldn't have left her as a tiny baby...it was hard enough when she was older.
