I've been using Allen's Naturally on the diapers, which I love. But when I tried to do our regular laundry with it, dh's clothes still smelled. He said as soon as he started sweating in a clean shirt he would stink. I'd like to get away from the Purex and all the additives for our clothes laundry. If I add Bac-out to the load when I wash with Allen's would that help?

Did I also read that you can use Bac-Out directly on stains as a stain remover? How does that work? I use Shout gel now and have success sometimes (I'm mainly talking about stains on clothes here, not diapers!).

Where do you buy your Bac-Out?

Thanks!

FWIW, I have found that Allen's Naturally creates a build up on my laundry. You may need to strip your laundry, just as you would your diapers. Bac Out is great for using on dirty laundry but if you have a build up it isn't going to help.

We're lucky enough to have several places in Portland to buy BacOut. We can buy it at two different "health food" stores and at Babyworks. If you live in a very rural area you might have to order it.

You can just directly apply it to stains with a spray bottle. I put it in my soak cycle and it seems to help prevent any staining.

Please tell me where?

Thanks,

I've been using Allen's for a long time on the diapers and have never stripped my diapers... Is this something I should try even though we aren't necessarily having any problems? Some of the diapers aren't as soft as they used to be; could stripping soften them back up???

I don't usually look inside of the machine while things are washing. The build up must have been gradual, I opened the lid one day to throw a stray sock in and was shocked at how nasty the water looked. I checked back once the rinse started agitating and it was still very gross. The build up must have been very gradual but I stripped everything, clothes, towels and diapers. It was amazing how dingy everything had gotten.

also try stripping your washing machine.
turn your water heater way up an hour before starting.
to start fill your machine with HOT water. no clothes, just watter. add two cups of vinegar and one cup of baking soda. run the cycle. when cycle is done take a washcloth and wipe the surfaces of everything inside except for the drum, that includes the agitator the top of the drum where there is usually plastic.. the lid, everything.
run through one cold cycle with no clothes. and viola your machine is stripped.

also if you want to switch detergents i suggest Charlies, it ROCKS, on everything from diapers to clothing to towels, everything.. and if you do a load of just old towels and washcloths first, it helps to not only strip them but your machine.
