I was born and raised in Springfeild.

we live in Iowa with wonderful active boys

and we are trying to move home to MO -- not looking like it will happen till 2011 or maaaaaybe 2012.

We are set on homeschooling k to 3rd for sure.

wondering about

how strict the laws are

how active homescfhooling groups are in the Springfeild area

also we do vax on a delay and selctive basis -- Theo is kindergarden age here in iowa in 2011 -- and we are caught -- there are vax we do not want himto get -- but to try to get an exemption it is all or nothing ... i can't choose SOME but not others ... what about in MO. am I SOL there too ...

Also what is the school cut off date to know what year Theo would be legally required to be in kindergarden?

and anything else you want to share.

think the cutoff date is September 15th.

if you choose to claim the religious exemption for vax, all you have to do is fill out the form at school. the school does not have to know if you have given any vax - just don't tell them and they shouldn't give you any grief. we haven't had any trouble with our exemptions for dd1 and ds.

cool

do you have to list what faith or prove your membership? or is it just a box to check?

I think we are leaning towards taking an exemption for ALL and then just getting the few we do want and hoping the school never finds out -- yk?

(be that iowa or MO or GA or ______ )

Cutoff is Sept 1st. Look at MO's dept of health website-our state vaccination requirements are less then the CDC recommended schedule.

I did something like this and got caught. The school would no longer accept my religious exemption, so be careful.

I will have to look at teh requiements. Thanks for the heads up.

I think any cut off is going to work for us -- the boys are fall BDs (late Oct and then Nov) so they will be the oldest in their "classes" and I like that.

It is ILLEGAL for them to ask you what religion you are when you claim a religious exemption. It also doesn't matter if they KNOW your religion and claim that your religion has no stance on vaccinations because it is YOUR legal RIGHT to practice your religion however you choose.

Homeschooling is 100% legal in MO. I believe you just tell the district that you are HS'ing and that is that.

I also participate in the www.springfieldmoap.com AP group with esaesa and tinyactsofcharity. (hello, ladies)
I worded at a local public hs for four years, and for vaxes, you simply ask for a religious exemption form, fill it out, and turn it in. Not a big deal from my experience. When my son went to dc/preschool, I gave them the exemption form and they took it w/o an issue.
I believe the school cut off date is Sept. 1.

HTH!
