Hey everyone! I had a quick question. Is it possible that my 7 mo is really saying MAMA and DADA? He started saying dada a couple weeks ago, when DH was playing with him. We laughed, but thought it was always a coincidence, a daily coincidence... now he's saying mama, especially if he gets upset and is crawling to me or clinging to my leg. He has done everything early so far, like sitting unassisted at 4 months and crawling at 5 months, but talking? I thought that was waaaaay down the road. Is this just wishful thinking? When do babies start talking?

You are probably not imagining the talking. Each baby develops differently... I also had one who spoke several words by 7 months old, and he met the motor milestones early as well. It's all so much fun; remember to enjoy the new developments as they occur.

DD said 'bye bye' at five months. By 7 I think she had four or five, although 'mama' wasn't one of them, she knew the sign for milkies and what more could she need?

Now at 21 months she speaks in sentences. I suggest sleep/rest, like a pp said. They only get more energy and bigger milestones from here on out!

Thanks for your responses. I'm so happy to know I'm not imagining it! He started signing potty lsat week too, but it was pretty obvious because he peed on the floor right away lol. I'm definately needing some rest!

At 7.5 months, Bethany also started saying mama and dada. She said "bannana" once and I thought I was hearing things! Of course I haven't been able to get her to say it again.
She also would sometimes try to say her name, which comes out betheeee.
Now at 9 months, she says nightnight and baba (bottle)

Yes, my ds started saying "mama" and "papa" at about 6 months. I wasn't sure at first, I couldn't believe it. He's not quite to sentances, but he probably has a vocabulary of 25 words now. He *never*stops!

I was told early talkers are often early walkers too, and yup, mine is running around at 10 months. I was prepared for that as ods walked early too. But the talking caught me off guard!

I'm glad to see others like my babe. When he first started talking I thought it was all a fluke and that he really didn't 'mean' to talk, but now I know different because he uses the words when he wants to. He is 8 months and putting two words together. He has a vocabulary of about 10 words. My husband swears that when ds2 was 4 months old and I left for an early morning shopping trip without him he was yelling "Mom, Mom!" I thought at the time that it was just a natural sound like "oww!", but he has continued to say "mom" to this day.

Oh, and this week my dh has been away on bussines and ds2 will be in the middle of play or something and stop to say "dada, bye, bye", then he will go back to what he is doing a bit more somber than before. I know babies have more going on in their little heads than I'll ever realize.

DS1 did this too... lots of words early... then around 12 months lost them (you can imagine i was freaked out) but gained lots of different social skills and communication tools like his own sign language and symbolic actions. then around 20 months he had a whole new set of words and a few of the ones from before.

By the way, he never lost the word "Octo" for Octopus, but somehow lost Mama. How nice!!

Now he has ten billion trillion words, made-up words, Spanish words, Chinese words, all the names of dinos and trucks... He's a talker!

DS1 knew how to call for me (mama) by 4 months, because whenever he'd whine at me, I'd respond with "ohhhmaamaa" and he'd say "wah!" and I'd say "maamaa" again. It was just one of those silly things you come into when you have a baby around, and he caught on to it quickly. However; he didn't say much else until he was 3 years old.

This is so funny... according to my mom I was saying "octo" at around 8 months and it was my absolute favorite word!

this is what happened to my ds1, too. at ten months, he had about 25 words, but dropped them. then he started signing, and doing other things, and finally started using complete sentences around 28 months. He too created his own signs, including one for 'groundhog'

rest up!
