Ack

Okay..I was warned that spring spinach is a pain here and to wait for fall..

of course I didn't listen--'cause I want spinach NOW!!! LOL
So now my plants are tall with scrawny leaves that look pitiful.
Does anyone know what I can do to help it fill out more?
Pick some of the mature leaves?
Plant them closer together and pretend they are just one plant?

The lettuce and mesclun mix grew/are growing beautifully in the same bed, fwiw

Sounds like your spinach bolted. You could pick off the tops but there isn't much you can do. I would recommend next time planting in fall or trying a slow to bolt variety.

My poor poor spinach

I was so looking forward to eating it ALLLLL

I have the second seeding growing now. I guess I'll watch it more carefully, although I am out there every day

This is our experiment year with the garden. It is its first year, we only had 2 bags of manure and 2 bales of peat moss (in a 25' square) and we didn't really til deep enough....
and we have a VERY active 15 month old who loves to climb on the mounds of dirt and squish it between his toes.

I'm just happy that things are actually growing
