My 2 yr old is just getting over croup. My 7 week old (yes, 7 weeks, poor baby!!) started barking like a seal this morning.
I don't understand it; I thought I would be making antibodies in my breastmilk to what my daughter had days ago; I thought it would protect the baby. Is there something wrong with my milk?

I'm so worried. Besides the humidifier, the hot shower steam, and the night air-- anything else I can do? I need a hug.

i remember the first time i dealt with croup. my middle child was 7 mos old and he and his brother had it together. they would both get it from then on for the next 2 years in April and in October. big weather temp changes then i guess. i just nursed them threw it while my friends that didn't breastfeed seemed to have a much rougher time with it in their children. we used the humidifier and nursed. that seemed to work best.

hang in there. there is nothing wrong with your milk. breastfeeding doesn't mean your child won't get sick, but it is the best for helping them get through an illness.

my youngest hasn't had a bout with croup yet.

Are you sick too? I think your milk only has antibodies to specific illnesses if/when you contract the illness and your body starts fighting it. In fact, our very natural doctor told me that every time my kids get sick, I should do whatever I can (including ingesting their buggers - gross, I know!) to get sick too, so that my body will react and the antibodies will be present in my breastmilk.

I hope your little ones are better soon.
