I am assuming on celexa I can not drink any alcohol. Is this true? What would happen if I did?
Secondly does tanning affect meds? I just started them and I went tanning yesterday and was feeling a bit worse this morning.

I generally avoid alcohol during the first few weeks, while adjusting. Other than that, I don't think alcohol is contraindicated. Usually when they say "avoid alcohol" its more of a "cover your fanny" type warning. Read the insert that came with the med. It should say something about studies with alcohol. Like "no effects were shown but advise patients to avoid"...or some such...

I've had a few drinks on it with no problems.

In all honesty I think that meds in general are hard in the liver and alcohol is not going to help that. But nothing catastrophic has happened to me having a few drinks on any of my meds...

I've no idea about tanning.

Some of them will make you more prone to burning.

You should not drink alcohol while taking meds. Period.

^Ditto. Psychiatric medications cannot do their job if you're drinking while taking them. It's a bad idea.

I wouldn't drink on any meds. I used to take Effexor and would drink frequently (depression + alcohol issues = not good). Anyway, even after 3 drinks I would be out of control, way past any normal "drunk" behavior. I would have black outs and not remember anything the next day. Scary stuff. I'm no longer on any meds and don't drink at all. So yeah...definitely stay away from alcohol if you have ANy concerns about it.
