I am just wondering what other know about getting a TB test while you are nursing? I was told by a nurse from my doctors office I could (but I could hear the hesitation in her voice). My pedi. told me to wait until my daughter was atleast 6 months, a friend of mine told me her pedi. told her she could get one at any time? To be honest I would prefer not to get one at all but I am trying to finish up an internship at a hospital and even though I am only there 1 day a week they say I still need to get one... or an x-ray. (which I am not to fond of either) but I guess would be the lesser of two evils!?!? Anyway would appreciate any feedback!

I'm in healthcare as well and even before that I have always gotten a TB (PPD and tine back in the day) skin test, both also while preg and breastfeeding. It's not anything I worry about, but that is just me.

THANK YOU ALL for your input! I really just needed some reassurance that having the TB test would be OK and that the little ones would have no negative affects... I know we all feel this way but I would hate for something to happen to my precious baby girl, that could have prevented! Again, Thank You for your input!

I'm dredging this post up from the underbellies of Mothering because I have a question about testing for TB if a person has had the BCG vaccination as a child. (I have had the vaccination.)

My husband and I are currently getting certified for foster care and one of the requirements is a TB test. I've read the literature and I'm seeing information out there suggesting that it's okay for me to get the test because it's been more than 5 years from the vaccination. However, my mom very distinctly remembers her doctor warning her to never allow me to get tested...

Anybody have any insight? Suggestions?
