Yeah! Tomorrow is my last day of school until August 22, and it's a half day! I am looking forward to sleeping in a little and spending time with the little one. I do have a couple of trainings this summer, but thats ok. How do you transistion to the summer? I am afraid my son does get a little confused during vacations then me going back to work, but I can't imagine not having this time each year.

This is my first offical post here. I hope that it is okay that I post here. I finished up my year two weeks ago and I am still in shock that I made it to the end of the year. As for the summers, I found at least with my oldest that she looked forward to the summers as much as I do. We will see with my little 8mo.

We just wrapped up our 2nd week of summer break. The first week was not your normal beginning of summer vacation--my parents were visiting from out of state and were in my house before my last official duty (chaperoning a formal), and then there was a deluge of cousins and a bday party for DS.

The second week we have been running running running!!! I can't believe it but I think I am more tired than when I am teaching fulltime and being a mommy and my house is dirtier, by far! We are doing a.m. swim lessons, mommy workouts at the gym many days (DS goes to gym daycare with his best friend), two afternoons a week there are art classes, and one night a week there is t-ball. DS has seldom been bored, but I don't think I could keep up this pace all summer. July will be a doing-stuff-around-the house kind of month, along with a week's vacation.

DS is starting a new preschool fulltime in the beginning of Aug. I guess it would be nice to keep him home until mid-Aug in some ways, but it will give him a head start on getting used to a new place, give him the opportunity to swim daily, and I will have time to work in my room at school, which I cannot do until then because of work going on in the building.

I was worried about transitioning, but I like to be busy just like DS, so we will all but wear out our welcome at the library, the pool, the zoo, the park, etc!!!

Having fun here!

Hope it's o.k. to post here as i'm not an official teacher
Haven't been in 15 years
Of course hs is over for the summer
: But we'll still be the obnoxious crowd at the library when the bookmobiles broke down!
Paint brushes and art materials will be part of the center peice on the kitchen table all summer as will be bug nets and nature jounals in the utility room.
have fun!!!1

my2girlzmom!

Only until Wed for me! Of course, I am very poor this year, so i agreed to teach summer school
. That will take care of July for me, and I have to go back on the 21st, although the kids don't show up until the 29th. So, that leaves me with 2.5 weeks in August and 1 week in June (I have a week long training on the Chesapeake Bay the last week of June).

It doesn't seem like enough!

I am switching subjects (sorta-from 8th grade English to 7/8 ELD English/Social Studies) again for the 3rd time in 4 years so I hope to have some timet to plan this summer. Plus a week long training on my new textbook. How much planning do you all get done in the summer? I always have high hopes but we'll see!

We were done last Friday -- and I'm already loving the break with ds! I'm due in August, so I'm really hoping to make the most of this last time with only him. My dh farms, so together we have a very relaxed, carefree non-scheduled summer planned. This is my 2nd year not doing summer school, and altho I miss the money, it really helps to make the summer longer.

I always have great intentions of planning and prepping all summer, but I usually am not ready for it til August. Hope everyone else is enjoying th break -- always love to hear from fellow teachers!

HI teachers, I hope you enjoy your time off and have a wonderful Summer! Sorry to highjack your thread but I have a teaching question. I am presently in grad school to receive my degree as a librarian, school media instructor - I plan to hopefully work in elementary. I just noticed that two of my classes for Fall involve fieldwork. Would it be appropriate to ask the librarian at my daughter's school if she would mind having me? If so, should I ask her now or wait until the year begins? How else do I go about finding a place to do this fieldwork? The university does not arrange it for you amd I would like to plan it now because I will have to work everything around my dd and work. Thanks, Danielle

I'll be joining you guys next year! I will be teaching full time at a private school next year, and my girls will be attending there as well. I'm so excited! I've been a WAHM for the last six years, teaching college English courses online, so I'm a bit nervous about going back to full time work. But I'm also looking forward to it too! A desk that isn't in my bedroom--heaven!

Hi Danielle!

I'd go ahead and ask your daughter's school librarian now. I think most of us education folks are planner-aheaders and appreciate, like you, setting things up in advance. Just give her an outlet to turn you down, I doubt she'd turn away any extra help, but I'm not sure what all your feild work entails for her or for you.

If she doesn't work out, just look for other schools that hold the same appeals for you and ask them. IMO its much better for you to pick a school your comfortable with then for one to be assigned to you, that's not a right fit!

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I think I will ask her now. Hopefully I'll get something set up for the Fall. Just in case she can't, I'll ask some others too. Thanks again.
