My DS appears to be teething so I am switching back to disposables until he feels better. I am still going to give him potty opportunities but I dont want him in a cloth diaper or naked while he is screaming unconsolably. It seems nursing makes his mouth hurt the most and that makes him extremely angry and hungry. I would like to know what other ECer's do while their little ones are teething. Any advice?

Huh. Are you just worried that he's more likely to pee/poop on you while being so unhappy? I just try to avoid diaper changes when she's really unhappy because she doesn't want to be laid down on the floor.

We're teething, but the only real difference seems to be that since she's drooling more she's peeing less (and not sleeping). She's a lot more randomly cranky, but I haven't found whether we're in a diaper, carried around on a pre-fold, or nakie butt to make much difference in her happiness levels.

Well, I guess I just dont want him to become more upset by wetting himself when he is already very upset. He isn't upset all day but yesterday he was so upset because his gums hurt when he was hungry and trying to nurse that I couldn't really calm him down for a half hour no matter how many of his favorite things I tried. We are **** a bit new to EC though we are doing great and I didn't want to us to have to worry about pee while he was screaming. I dont think he peed the whole time he was upset though and we did better today. It put a little teething medication on his gums before he nursed and though he wore the disposables for about 2/3 of the day we caught most of the pees and all but one poop( I doubted myself and didn't bring him to potty until it was too late. I wont do that again) I think tomorrow we will go back to the cloth while at home.

When DS is teething I find he pees a lot at night, but hardly at all during the day... and also has problems nursing. One of the things he loves the most is going butt naked and going outside, so we do a lot of playing and nursing outside, naked. Well, him naked anyway. I live in Georgia too... I understand it's hot but man he loves it!

yeah, my DS adores the outdoors as well. We go walking outside alot, usually nakey or in training pants I can slip off for a quick pee. In fact I think his favorite place to pee is just below our front step. I know as we get better and better we will use the sposies less and less. We are going to experiment with cloth at night soon I think, and then on outings. Thanks for the input. Where in Georgia are you Sunnymw? I would love to join an EC group.

Hylands homeopathic teething tablets have done wonders for our daughter. I highly reccomend them (even though I'm not really familiar with homeopathy). Apparently you can often get them at normal drug stores?

You might find it easier to do cloth (w/o a cover) all the time just because he won't get confused about sometimes feeling wet when he pees, sometimes not. I know we had a bit of an adjustment going back to cloth, esp at night, after using disposies while traveling for a week. If you don't have a cover and have a really quick change-up then you don't have to worry so much about him being unhappy 'cause you can tell the instant he's wet. Actually, even if you have a cover and you leave the diaper sticking out the leg holes you can usually tell (I'm a very lazy cloth diaperer).

Thanks, that is probably the best idea. I have been planning to switch to cloth at night, but I am a little concerned about how much it will disrupt our sleep.

We use a pocket system at night so that if we don't get to her right away she doesn't get too uncomfortable or develop diaper rash. This obviously doesn't work as well if you're trying to EC all night long. Since you're worried about sleep disruption I'm guessing you aren't. We just potty her if we are awake enough and change the insert if it's wet then, but mostly we sleep until at least 4 before doing anything diaper/potty related.
