Does anyone use these? Dd is 7mo and I just bought some organic ones. They contain wheat flour, molasses, sunflower oil and I am wodering if I should give one to her. She has been trying foods for about 3 wks now but we haven't done anything but fruits & veggies. Thoughts?

by the looks of the ingredients they are the same organtic teething bisquits I bought last week and gave to DD (6.5 months)

My thoughts:

#1 - I always try everything before I give it to DD, I thought they tasted yucky

#2 - They were the perfect size for her to hold, and she seemed to disagree with my opinion of the taste because she loved playing with/chewing on with them!

#3 - They make a huge mess of whatever clothes they are wearing. When the baby spit gets on them it mixes with the molasses and gets brown goo everywhere.

#4 - Don't let baby out of eyesight with the bisquit. When they get kind of soft, the end can break off and be a chocking hazard (had to pull it out of her mouth and give her a fresh hard one - which I took away before it got to that stage of mushy)

My DD loves her teething biscuits and has been chewing around on them since just a few weeks after I intro'd solids. Like the PP mentioned, you have to watch out because once they get mushy, the ends to break off and you have to pull the piece out of their mouths. But, DD loves her cookies!

I make my own. They don't crumble or get very messy.

Marylang - would you mind sharing your recipe??? We've been slowly introducing solids & I know DS2 would appreciate something hard to teethe on. I'd much rather make my own. Thanks!

This is a base recipe.
Do what you want with it, change things up. But IMO the eggs are important. So its not vegan or anything. But on the other hand are there any egg substitutes that could work?

Overnight Teething Biscuits

2 eggs
1 c brown or white sugar ( I know thats a lot, use any sugar substitute, but NOT honey! )
2-2 1/4 C Flour ( I use part white, part whole grain graham flour)
1/4 C wheat germ
dash of cinnamon

Break eggs into bowl and stir til creamy.
Add sugar, and continue to stir. Gradually add enough flour to make a stiff dough.
Roll out between two sheets of wax or parchment paper, to about 3/4" thickness.
Cut into strips or rounds or whatever you want.
Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Let stand over night (10-12 hrs)
Bake at 325F until browned and hard.
This will make about 12 durable and almost crumb free teething biscuits.
Freezes well.

I got this recipe from one of these forums over the years can't remember where though.

I make these: http://charmiecm.homeschooljournal.n...hing-biscuits/

They're YUMMY! They're really, really hard, so they're not as messy as the store bought either. You can use flavored applesauce to change the flavor of the biscuits if you want, too. Silas seems like the blueberry ones better than the regular-flavored applesauce ones I made. I've also used pure cane syrup in place of the maple syrup and that tasted good too.

This is what I love about the recipe I made: I have YET to see him get a bite of it...lol. It just kind of crumbles off in little bits. He's gotten better at gnawing on it and getting it pretty soft over the last couple of weeks, but man, they just don't give in.

I won't use them because of all the horror stories I've heard of them breaking into big chunks and babies almost choking.
