I'm looking for new television shows to preview for my 6 year old. He is not interested in pure non-fiction, but loves fiction that incorporates non-fiction (ala Dinosaur Train and Magic School Bus). He is ready for a deeper level of information than either DT or MSB provides.

We are pretty anti-violence in our programming choices for him, but something that introduced some real history might be acceptable.

Any ideas?

I'll check it out. It looks like too much reality and not enough storytelling for him, but maybe not.

I am in the same boat as you I like looking at reviews from www.commonsensemedia.org they have it sorted by age and give descriptions about things you may or may not want your kids to see. We love discovery kids!

Liberty's Kids on PBS and DVD is a good show and aimed at 7-12 year olds. It is based on historical facts of Revolutionary America, but it is in story format.

The characters are fun and the info seemed accurate, it has been a few years since I watched it---but the kids I worked with (in the schools) enjoyed it. Our library has the DVDs-- it is sequential, but you could watch them out of order.

My 6yo son likes Cyberchase and Zula patrol, but his favorite shows are pure non-fiction. He'll walk away if a show isn't "realistic enough." He likes Henry's amazing animals too, but we don't get that anymore
