Does anyone here order from Shwann's, the food delivery service? We just moved into an apartment and he stopped by looking for the old tenents and gave us a catalog.

It all looks good, especially the frozen yogurt, lol.

I'm just wondering what you guys think of Shwann's food and if it's economical/frugal to order from them? (we're cheap, lol.)

thanks!

I've never ordered from them, but I can't imagine it would be more economical than cooking from scratch. If you typically either eat at restaurants, or get takeout, then getting Schwann's would probably save you some money. But, you know, you're paying for someone to prepare and package that food (and for the packaging itself) and then to deliver it -- in short, the convenience. I don't know what the prices are, but if you're frugal, you'd probably be better off buying your own ingredients and cooking at home. That way, you also can cater your meals to your family's nutritional needs and likes/dislikes, and also know exactly what's going into them, too.

That said, can you order just the frozen yogurt?

I order from schwans. They aren't frugal (not by a long shot) and their food isn't that nutritious, either. (Lots of additives and preservatives)

I usually only order a frozen pizza, ice cream and the frozen berry blend. There is no minimum order or anything, you can join just for the frozen yogurt if you want.

Oh, and if you are a vegetarian - watch out! Almost everything has beef or chicken fat in it, it seems! Alot of the snack foods have animal ingredients. Even the entrees they call meatless have beef and/or chicken fat (like the manicotti and the pad thai style noodles, both were labeled: "MEATLESS").

I am sorta wanting to stop wasting my schwan's guys time because my order is so so small and yet I really like their ice cream and the berries. And I like the schwan's guy, so I feel bad 'breaking up' with him. :LOL

I live in the middle of nowhere, and I have also been looking at Schwan's. They look good for ice cream, etc, because it is nearly impossible to get frozen stuff to our house without it melting ( especially in the summer!).

We are also cheap, and looking at all the prepared food, I think I can get most of this stuff in the store cheaper. It is all about convenience, really. We had a pizza of theirs, and it wasn't the best store-bought pizza I had ever had. I have heard that their food is really good, though.
Does that help at all?

We live in the middle of nowhere (over an hour to a store) and we order from Schawns. I usually just get ice cream. Sometimes I get other stuff, espcially if Dh is home when he comes :LOL Attila - I love the berries too!

It expensive, which is why we only get ice cream. Most foods can defrost a little on the way from the store and be fine after re-frozen, but ice cream is just not the same.

I average probably 1 gallon of ice cream a week and few extras once in a while, and my Schwan's man never minds!

I say if you can afford it, try it. My favorite Ice cream is summer's dream (vanilla ice cream and orange sherbert)

I order Schwan's.....the salmon fillets cause it doesn't get any easier than throw it in the oven, turn oven on!
The frozen yogurt and ice cream. The OCCASIONAL entree if they go on sale for nights where nobody took out anything to make. (nights when otherwise it might be go out to eat....) The Mediterranean mixed veggies cause I like dump in pan, turn on burner, stir, set timer 11 minutes, done. And I don't typically buy things like the squash that's in that mix.
Oh and um..........I had a little thing for the Mississippi Mud ice cream sandwiches when I was preggo! OF COURSE the week I decided I HAD TO HAVE SOME............they were out. They showed up TWO WEEKS LATER LOL. I still wanted them, that much more!

I would not get the chicken fajita mix just cause there wasn't many veggies---if you don't mind adding some more of your own veggies, it was good.

Oh and I like the spinach mushroom garlic pizza. there was another one, chicken something, I tried.......it was ok. (personally though, unless they're on sale, I think you can get similar at the grocery store cheaper.)

And
: maybe a lot of you here wouldn't do this, but when I was a kid, we got Schwans too and my mom used to order the chicken nuggets.........they were GOOD. (at least to a kid) I don't know that they are exceptionally nutritious........but for something quick for kids.............at least at home, you don't HAVE TO have fries on the side.......They couldn't have been too expensive or my mom wouldn't have bought them, I remember it being a *big* box.

The only thing I order from Schwans are the Haddock sticks (they are the only ones I have come across so far that have more fish than breading) and Ice Cream. Everything else on their menue is really not my thing.

But the peeking in the window would prompt me to make a phone call to their regional office.
I like my privacy...

they have alot of really unhealthy stuff, but some pretty good stuff, at least-this was about 10 years ago. They have a horribly delicious grasshopper chocolate ice cream pie......
I have fond memeories of devouring it after school ewith a best freind. We would sneek out in the garage and eat at it without actually cutting peices. My mom would've freaked.

Like Attila said, it's really hard to break up with your Schwann's guy. They're just all so nice...

Anyway, the food is only cheaper than eating out. Barely. And not especially good for you. Lots of additives, sodium and fat.

But you gotta try the sweet cream cheese-filled soft pretzels! And they have an appetizer I like, too. A spinach artichoke dip with flatbread. Of course, the ice creams and frozen yogurts are yummy...

It's really best just not to start... :LOL
