Maybe this has been done before or I'm posting this in the wrong spot (toddlerhood? health?), if so just send me in the right direction!

My DS is 15 mo. We have no history of any allergies in our whole family, both mine and DH's. I've also heard that peanuts should be avoided until at least 2 sometimes 3 yo. But then I read other threads where mamas are giving their young toddlers peanut butter. I would love to start doing this, since my DS could use a good source of protein and he's such a picky eater. My DH let him lick a little off his finger the other night and he really enjoyed it. Before that, I had rubbed a little on his arm a few months ago, with no reaction. Does this mean we're in the clear and we can go ahead and give him peanut products? Or can an allergy develop because of exposure? I have no idea how this works! And it seems like peanut allergies are really on the rise! Why is this? So many questions... the main one being, can I give him peanut products?

Ok, tell me what ya know...

CK's Mama is right. 2 is the recommended age for children in families with no history of allergies. Other nuts can be started at 1 year if no allergy history. Almond butter is a great choice - it is actually highter in calcium, iron and vitamin E than peanut butter. Tahini (sesame seed butter) is another good choice.

Also, from what I understand - a peanut allergy might not show up the first time a child eats it but may show up the second.
