I've tried everything else. The external version -- where they try to move the baby into head down position manually is scheduled for this week. What to expect?

It isn't my first choice, but I'm running out of options.

Tell me about yours -- did it hurt? Was the pain in waves, like contractions, or just intense? Did it hurt afterwards or just during the procedure?

How long did it take?

What medical interventions were used? Looks like they want to use a fetal monitor and a drug to prevent contractions on me. Any thoughts?

Other side effects?

And, of course... DID IT WORK!?!?!??!!?

Thanks!

I had an external version in 2002 with my daughter.

did it hurt?

Not that I remember .The procedure was a little uncomfortable.. felt some pressure from the doc pushing on my tummy. After everything was done and the meds wore off I would say I was a little achey but that could easily have been from being preggo too

What medical interventions were used?

Ultrasound was used almost the entire time... I had an Epidural , Rhogam , and something else to help relax muscles and to prevent contractions

How long did it take?

No more than 10-15 minutes

Other side effects? And, of course... DID IT WORK!?!?!??!!?

My dd's heartrate went a little funky after they turned her....but all they did was observe her HR overnight and began induction in the morning . So , yes it worked

I think I see the chiropractor more than I see my husband lately.

I tried accupuncture, too. And lots of inversion exercises, even did somersaults and headstands in the swimming pool at the gym -- felt like a total laughingstock, but did them nonetheless. Did the heat/cold combo thing... I think I've tried most everything people suggested. But no dice.

Thanks for the good thoughts!

Oh, wow. That's more than I was told I'd have. I specificially asked if they would want me to have an epidural, and they said no.

Sounds like that babe knows where he/she wants to be. How far along are you?

I had one w/my daughter a few years ago. I was about 38-39 weeks along.

It was very painful. The dr. took her head and pulld and the intern took her butt and pushed up. They tried this twice and couldn't get her head past a certain point. Then he said he'd try one more time the other way and stop b/c he didn't want to hurt her. So, when they tried that I jumped up and screamed at them to stop and cried b/c it hurt so bad.

They of course used u/s the whole time and gave me a medication (don't remember...I didn't want it, but they said I needed it...blah blah).

No, obviously didn't work. She was stuck in there nice and tight. I ended up w/a c/s after a lot of prayer and what my intuition told me.

If this babe were to be breech, I'd go for a vaginal breech unless I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I shouldn't.

Side effects? Can hurt the baby. I wouldn't do it again personally. The only way I would is if I was having a hospital birth and it was during labor last minute where they turn him/her and then you are pushing! :

Good luck w/whatever you decide. It seems like you are doing everything in your power!

I had mine during labor as DS#1 was transverse. My MW attempted an external...kind of unpleasant but not unmanageable. I leaned against a wall and she attempted to turn between contractions. It didn't work, so she did an internal....not the most pleasant thing I've ever experienced. It was....difficult, but it did work! No CS for me, happy ending for all!!
