I just started today and I must be doing something wrong.......first time was great, later all my folded-in-the-wrap wanted to do was slide down in front and just annoy us....

And is it just me, or has anyone else made the switch and you feel like you change the baby a million times a day? Maybe I'm just paranoid about leaks? I only have 12 prefolds, I used 6 in about 9-10 hours......and that includes a couple naps, probably a total of 3 hours spent sleepin.....

I used them because I was cheap, they were okay.. then I hated them.. used everything under the sun, and now I'm "back to basics" and loving them.

if it slips down the cover just snappi a quick angel wing fold. It's actually faster for me to do that than it is to line it up in the cover! I just snappi it, cover it, maybe tuck in the legs and I'm done.

I think you need a tighter cover for trifolding. I use her size "smalls" and that's pretty much the only way some of them fit, but it's very trim!

Prefolds are not for everyone. Personally, I loved them in the newborn stage, but trying to get the on a wiggly crawler/walker is my idea of torture. I much prefer fitteds. Some people like pockets, some like AIOs ... that's why there are so many different choices, for all of the different peoples.
Having said that, I wouldn't give up on them after only one day -- give it some time and see what you think over the long haul.

I would definitely get a snappi and/or some pins, if I were you. (Heck, I'll send you a snappi, if you want -- PM me your address.) They might change your mind about prefolds. Tri-folding sucks, IMO. There's nothing to keep the diaper in place, it slides everywhere, and there's no barrier around the legs to keep poo from getting all over the cover. BLECH!

And it probably only feels like you were changing all the time because you weren't feelin' the love.
That's pretty average for number of changes in that time span, I'd say, even in sposies. (Or it should be, even in sposies -- those chemicals may hold the pee, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing.) Also, if you are worried about leaks, you might want to get some doublers so that the diaper can hold more between changes. We have a ton of doublers, use them all the time, and my DD is not even what I would call a heavy wetter. (My DS was a heavy wetter ... whoa nelly, a heavy wetter! :LOL) You could by some preemie prefolds (which you can get 12 for $10 including shipping ... ask Spark where) to use as doublers and just fold 'em into your other prefolds or lay them in your fitteds.

Hang in there, mama. Keep trying things and you'll eventually find something you're happy with!

I would try pins or a snappi. Pins are kind of intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, they are really easy. You should buy a snappi and a set of pins and see what works best.

6 diapers in 10 hours sounds about right to me. CPF's don't hold as much as a lot of other diapers and since the wetness is right up against baby's skin, I tend to change more often (unlike Fuzzi Bunz where I don't feel guilty leaving him in it for a couple of pees). When I have a day where I just use prefolds, I end up using at least 12 or 14 (not including nightime).

When I first started using cloth, I wasn't very impressed with prefolds. I tried just folding them in a wrap, but it did not work out for us. I loved pockets, fitteds, and aio's much better. But honestly, after washing fitteds and aio's (which is a pain in the rear imo) I see the advantages of prefolds. I'm also a pro at pinning them now, so that helps, too. When my dipes come out of the wash, I use just prefolds for two days and grudgingly use fitteds and aio's on the third day.

You just need to experiment and find what works for you. You may end up loving prefolds and you may not. At least you are giving them a chance.

You probably need to use a snappi or pins. I never had any success laying a prefold in a wrap. It always got bunched up and wonky. Here's a page of prefold folds.

Also, you will change diapers more often in cloth than you do in sposies, especially if you're using cpf's.

I can't STAND laid-in PFs unless they are in a *really* snug-fitting wool wrap (I only had one cover that fit my criteria, and I shrunk it down to NB size in the washer a few weeks ago
: ) I have to fasten them or they drive me nuts. I use Snappis, I never tried pins until my DS was 18 months and let me tell ya, that's NOT the time to try to learn something new with that steep a learning curve! :LOL Next babe I'll get the pins out when they're little and can't run away...

And give it a few days, at least. 6 dipes in 10 hours sounds like plenty few to me. I forgot to look and see how old your babe is, but when my son is coverless around here and I change him every pee I would EASILY go through that many in that time frame, with naps and everything. Just take it slow, no harm in using what you have for now and you will build up more eventually. Trust me, when my first order of PFs were stuck in customs and were late arriving I used the same 2 PUL covers and about 5 old Curity PFs left over from when I was a baby to hold me until my real stash arrived. And I washed really often and used sposies in the meantime. Just do what you can, it will all fall into place pretty soon. Patience, mama!

My fitteds are supposed to be here early this week.......
I've got a friend who will help turn prefolds to fitteds too.

Prefitted are awesome, but w/ time and practice I've come to absolutely adore a trimmed, pinned pf on DS. I can't get it on him faster than snapping a bunch of snaps on a fitted any day. But this came w/ practice! Just hang in there mama!
