The people from my hometown (which is kinda far from where I live now) threw my DD a baby shower this past weekend. There were at least 40 people there. They were all so happy to meet DD and to inquire about her UC birth. They had me get up in front of everyone and tell her birth story. It was so funny to see the reactions. They all cheered and clapped after I finished the story. My mom said she felt like we were at a lecture or something cause after I finished talking people asked questions. I didn't get any extremely negative reactions. Most of the reactions were very positive. I just wanted to share. It really made me feel good to be able to share my UC story and to show everyone my healthy DD.

That is so awesome!! I hope I can do the same thing someday.

Why is it that so many people are "supportive" after the fact and not before? "Oh I'm so glad it turned out OK." I think as more women do UC others will start to understand. What a fabulous way for you to educate!

How cool! I only wish!

I was just mentioning that to my DH the other day. We were talking about how cool our UC experience had been and how much I wished I had more people to share it with. Strangely, though, almost nobody who knows about our UC has asked me even a single question about it! Even DH's family (who were generally supportive) didn't ask about it at all when we went for a visit recently.

I mentioned this to my mother (who is very pro-UC) and she said, "Well, you DID send EVERYONE a copy of your birth story (via e-mail) that was like 9 pages long...I think you answered all of the questions they could have possibly had." Oh, yeah...good point, Mom.

Wow! That sounds so cool. I am glad you got a positive response. It is weird how supportive people are after the fact. I am glad you enjoyed your baby shower.
I hope that I am able to do the same someday. I want to stay as vague as possible before the birth, but I may wind up saying that I'm going to San Francisco to birth at a friend's house with my old midwife.

That's great they were supportive! I think that since nothing 'bad' happened what can they say?

Oh good! I'm so happy for you that you got such positive responses. I was very surprised that we got so many positive responses to our UC. Lots of people really do have common sense about these things deep down I think.

yeah, it is cool that i got good responses. it is sad though, that if something "bad" would have happened, I would have not gotten that support-I just know it!
i felt so proud telling of my successful uc. i hope it inspired someone to have a uc sometime.
