temp and CM checks

Hello! I'm new to the group.

We have been TTC for 18 months, and I've been using LH strips here and there. My DH was tested and his results are normal and I had bloodwork (thyroid check, I guess). My Ob says my results are normal and my "eggs look good" in her words. This month I've been using the LH strips again and I always had postive results in the past, but this month, all negative. Soooo... does bloodwork really show that "my eggs are good"? Are they in there, but just not being released this month?

Also- I've resisted doing temp and CM checks because I hate being reminded everyday of my inability to get pregnant. Aren't the LH sticks just as good? I know these are questions for medical professionals, but I appreciate the emotional support of being in a group with others in the same boat. Thanks!

First and foremost... Relax.

I don't think you've got an inability to get pregnant because you've been kinda trying for 18 months... unless you're temping and checking cm and baby dancing every time you know you're fertile and STILL don't get pregnant, then it could be a problem, but simply using an LH strip here and there and otherwise hoping... it's not cause for concern. You could simply be missing your fertile days every single month... which sounds silly but it happens! a lot!

I think it would be best for you to try temping for 4 months, just 4... if you still aren't pregnant by the end of that time, then start looking into the reasons... but if you're not temping and checking cm you're not really "trying" but more "not trying not to" you know?

i really don't mean for this to insult anyone... so I hope it doesn't... but unless you know exactly what your body is doing and doing the deed at the right time accordingly, it really shouldn't count as "inable to get pregnant" just as "haven't gotten lucky yet"

Plus, if you have a problem like LP defect, temping will tell you and you'll be able to correct it.

MaerynPearl, well put! I agree with you 100%, and I don't think what you said is insulting. We were "not trying not to" when I got pregnant. After my miscarriage, I started reading up on charting and realized that if I really want to get pregnant, charting is what I should be doing (obsessing, that's another story...). Suddenly, just "seeing what happens" seems ridiculous, since there is only a small window every cycle when I'm fertile.

Plus, shellnurse, charting is fascinating because you learn so much about your body and your cycle.

I agree! I got pregnant three times before charting... but since starting to date dbf i have had to chart to see whether or not we have a chance to get preggers when he's home on his leaves...

And I always thought i was "normal" but I'm not

I have average 28 day cycles but they can be anywhere from 26 to 29 and once had a 32 day cycle...

I o 12 days before af comes

my periods only last 3 days (until i saw other ladies charts i wasnt aware some women have week long periods! and i really feel sorry for them!) but it's still healthy, my doctor says my body just cleans itself out quickly (thus my horrible cramping) rather than easily.

It wasn't until after having my daughter (the third pregnancy... and this will be a shock) that i learned you can only get pregnant at a certain time of each month, and that it was different in each woman! That's right... my school never taught us that! they taught us you could get pregnant ANY time you have unprotected sex... including on your period... and never explained more.

granted my school also had a 70 year old woman teaching health and i'm pretty sure she still though storks brought babies...

I totally agree with PPs, My DH and I were off BC for 2 years before I started charting and I realized I just had no clue when my fertile time was, and on top of that my O delays easily if I'm in any way stressed. Once I charted we got a BFP on the second cycle (it didn't stick, but at least we got that far)
So temping and checking CM and CP is much more reliable than OPKs, and it really helps you get to know your body

Good luck!

exactly! OPKs COULD be telling you you're ovulating AFTER you've already ovulated!!!

Popping in from a DDC club here...

Wanted to share that I got pregnant without EVER having a positive OPK (wasted $45 on them over 2 cycles), and my last OPK was done as per box instructions the afternoon before I ovulated (very clear ovulation on chart, complete with temp dip, spotting and then temp rise). So if I went by OPK alone, I wouldn't have conceived!

Don't think of charting as a reminder of your inability to get pregnant. Think of it as a way to understand your body and take control of your fertility.

Good luck!
