Ds cut his leg open on a piece of glass, maybe from a lightbulb that broke months ago, and there's a piece stuck in it still. The top layer of skin is cut all the way through. The bleeding is stopped. What do I do? The doc wants him in and i KNOW they are going to bring up a tetnus shot. HELP!

I might go in to get the glass out but not get the vax. It bled. That's more than enough to satisfy me that tetnus is not a worry. Also, this is a highly reactive vax. I would not even consider it.

Should I make sure that they make sure it bleeds after they take it out? I am waiting for a ride now. I am sooooo upset. I feel like I can't even be there for my kids. I can't drive due to MS symptoms. I can't fail my kids now.

It's bleeding, so he doesn't need a tetanus vax. I would not give it. But I would take him in and get the piece of glass out. That's all.

Personally I would stay absolutely firm on not giving the shot and I would tell him right away. No shot. Just take the glass out and dress the wound.

Thanks ladies. Why do I feel sick about this? The bleeding stopped. Does that make a difference at all?

Don't worry about the wound(coming from an RN) and say no if they push the vax!!! Honestly, they may not even ask!

NO. It bled. That's good enough. It does not have to keep bleeding. A drop or two brought enough oxygen to the area.

Kids actually don't even need to bleed they have a very quick circulatory system and really can't get tetanus very easily at all. It is not a worry in kids.

You won't. I have confidence in you. Just stay firm. You are the mom. He is only the doctor.
