"An angry Texas crowd has beaten and killed a 40-year-old car passenger after a driver injured a young girl near the site of a busy local festival.

Police said the driver of the car stopped to check on the health of the girl, said to be aged three or four.

But when the passenger got out to see how she was, he was set upon by a group of up to 20 people before being left lying in a car park, police said.

The girl was hit at low speed and was not seriously injured."

Wow. I'm glad the girl is OK... but it's really disturbing to think that this innocent man was killed by the crowd.

I read the article and I am stunned that people would beat basically a bystander - he was just a passenger in the car, not the driver.

Very very sad.
That's unbelievable.
How sad to attack the Samaritan.

Unfortunately, another Juneteenth celebration got out of hand in Milwaukee too.

On a side note, DH told me several years ago that his father accidently ran over a woman's foot with his car and kept on driving. He said that his (white) father felt horrible for the (black) woman, but absolutely feared for his life as it occurred during some of the most violent times in South Africa's internal struggles. I somewhat scoffed at the idea when he initially told me, but seeing it here makes me think that he may have acted understandably for the circumstances.

That's awful, and incredibly scary as well

i wonder if there is more to this story? how sad for that man and his family, and the little girl i'm sure she was scared...ugh it just makes a chill run down my spine thinking about it!
OMG! I am... shocked, ...ashamed that this happened in Austin, ...saddened, ...

No no NO! I thought we were beyond this.
Umm.. Why would people even do that? I don't understand.

On another note.. what the heck is Juneteenth? I have never ever in my life heard of this.

ETA: OK.. read the last paragraph.. So is this a Texas thing?
This is another example of *** backwards people taking their frustrations out on the wrong people. This is too stupid for words! I really feel bad for that man and his family.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
Thats interesting. Like I said, I have never heard of it, neither has DH. And I saw the post up there about Milwaukee, I just didn't read it. I figured if it was "World Wide," living 20 miles outside Portland, and previously living 40 miles outside of San Francisco, I would have heard of it before.

I guess you learn something new every day.

There were 3 - 4 people that committed the murder. Not a "mob", as reported by some media outlets.

I don't know if the cops are just wrong or covering this up, I mean it isn't good press for such a safe city.

It seems like most of what was originally reported has been retracted. very strange.
