U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States.</td>

I also made it through Philly's airport with a multitool type knife in my diaper bag. I had absolutely no idea it was there, I found it a week later, in Phoenix, when I dumped the bag out on the bed to repack it to come home. Seriously, the only reason I think it's safe to fly is that terrorists wouldn't waste their manpower by trying the same tactic again, because the second they stand up to hijack the plane they'd be rushed and never acheive their goal. I don't think our government's new "safety" efforts provide an iota of safety, only extra inconvenience.

I've been through airport security at least four times recently with a swiss army knife in my carry on. Didn't know it was there until the last trip! No one noticed it...

Damn, how's everyone doing that? Every time I've flown since 2001 I've lost my nail clippers, four sets of leatherman multi-tools, and one Gerber knife (the latter was left in my backpack accidentally leftover from a climb trip the week before). I also have to take apart my pens, turn on my Powerbook, play my iPod, and submit to hand searches... every damned time! It has to be my beard..... <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/bag.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Bag">:

my4girls - that was a completely tougue-in-cheek heading (which I think that gnds knows). I was making a social commentary on the fact that Cat Stevens gets arrested for being a terrorist but this guy can walk right in. I certainly hope that no one felt that I was being racist. Should I change the title? (I alway *assume* that peope here *know* me)

"At a time when the United States is tightening its borders, how could a man toting what appeared to be a bloody chain saw be allowed into the country?<br><br>
Bill Anthony, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the Canada-born Despres could not be detained because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen and was not wanted on any criminal charges on the day in question."<br><br>
Oh - well that changes everything he must be OK if he's a US citizen . You know we are the most peaceful, non-violent, country in all of the world ...<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/banghead.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="banghead"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/banghead.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="banghead"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/banghead.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="banghead"><br>

Victorian, I didn't take any offense to your post or title; I knew you were being sarcastic. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> I totally understood your post!! I was <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/eyesroll.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="roll"> to people calling Arabs "Ay-rabs". No offense taken whatsoever!!
