The generous people at Similac just sent me a very large package in the mail. I felt like I was getting a present!

Can you belive that wonderful company sending me 2 FREE containers of formula and a book to help me to breastfeed!

Wow, they are really thoughtful.

Thanks Similac!

Oh and BTW-I opened it and explained to my 2 and 4 yr old about how it was propaganda...and how the company sent it to us so we would give them lots of our money and not breastfeed. I asked them "how do we feed babies?" And they said "BOOBY!" My ds is starting to get confused though because I guess of being around preschool?

My dh was like

He thinks I am turning the kids into fruitbags.

Cause I throw baby bottles away when they come with dolls

Whats wrong with not giving them an alternative? :

My friend did an experiment when she was pregnant. She registered with similac and enfamil on their websites, one using her name, address and clicking the breastfeeding only box, then she registered using her maiden name and her mothers address and checking the planning to formula feed only box. Well I swear to you, she got tons more formula samples and checks to her home where she was a breastfeeder. She got mail and samples for MONTHS. Her formula feeding alter ego got minimal samples and checks.

Its truly disgusting what the formula companies are allowed to get away with!

Yep. I've also heard from friends that once you start using hte checks, they start coming in smaller denominations. Like, they start out with an $8 check, then a $5, then $1. I always got the big money ones, because I never use them.

Meanwhile, I just got the same package, but from Enfamil. "Breastfeeding" book and all. The main advice is "if you're going to supplement, wait until 4-6 weeks"....and the box arrived the day dd turned 4 weeks. Coincidence? Hmm....

I would call the company. This is was I did with my samples. I called and asked to speak to a manager. And said "I my name is Mandie Lastname, and I need to speak to you about your company's deliberate sabotage of breastfeeding relationships." I went on my speech for several minutes and she apologized, said she would speak to her manager, and then said "Why don't you just pass that can along to another new mother who needs it?" Needless to say, that was the end of our conversation. At least I feel like one person at the company heard from a breastfeeding mother about what her company was doing.

Here's my stupid question of the day: how did they get your information in the first place? How do they know you had a baby???

My friends have all recieved the samples in the mail, but I have yet to get a single thing. Is it becuase I refused all of the feebies in the hospital and threw a fit? Or is it becuase babe was in the NICU so we were kind of "off the grid" for awhile?

It seems to me that if it is the hospital releasing your information to these companies, that would be a violation of privacy laws, right??

Hey, how nice of them to give a gift to your local foodbank!

If only I could have passed along those stupid checks - I wish someone could have used them.

Yes, they sent me lots with my first 2. They must have given up when I didn't use it because I haven't gotten anything so far this time!

it is the hospital. i registered at babies r us and bye bye baby as well as online. but, it was a homebirth, no formula stuff from us. i have a friend who lost a baby and got a box of formula- she was too early to register- it was the hospital. they break all the rules when it comes to formula.

OMG that is horrible.

Do these people in marketing have consciences or are they put through rigorous testing to remove any ethics?

Now that is pathetic!!!!!!! When the nurse tried to force the formula on me, I kept refusing and brought the neonatologist in the room, and he totally backed me up. Then I mentioned ethics, and she shut up. It is disgusting that the hospital would release our personal information to formula companies! :
