Hello Mommas,
Some advice on Hip Carriers please. I'll make a long story short, We recently tried a certain pouch sling and didn't like it. I so wanted to like it!: I need to go in another direction carrier wise. We've never used a carrier, but DS is almost always carried. He's 5 months old and big for his age, I'm guessing around 19lbs. (not been to the peds office for awhile) I'm getting worn out, even a trip to Wal-Mart is tough. I am SO wanting a carrier for him and because he's already big I may get a hip carrier. I'd like your advice on what is the best one.

I found one for $25 at One Step Ahead, but I've not heard much about it. Anyone tried that one? I've heard the most about The Hip Hammock, anything to ad? How about the Rideon, or the Portapack? Walking Rock farm looks nice but is out of my price range. Any I've not seen? They do seem to all be very similar.

You may recognise me from all of previous posts about carriers, and you may be tired of answering all my questions....but I SOOOO want a carrier that will work for us, and I don't have alot of money to try them all out.
I'm interested to see some replies in this. I just got a pouch too and am having a hard time figuring it out. I think the hip carry would work best for us. I have a snuggli front carrier that I carry ds in when we go shopping, but it's awkward for doing things around the house. I also don't have a lot of $$ to try different things. I hope someone has some good advice!

OK...I am not a huge pouch sling fan so hopefully someone who is one will way in on this one.

I really like the Maya wrap and have been happily carrying dd in it for 10 mo (and chasing a 4 yo). However, I am starting to have back issues I don't think it is solely the sling (bad mattress, lifting a 4 yo...)

I have been finding if I fiddle with the wrap, I can get more support by cinching dd in closer and spreading the fabric across my back...which has lead me into the search of tied slings that you can cross around your back.

That certainly didn't answer your quesiton for best wrap did it....But of any of the slings I have tried, I LOVE the Maya best of all.

we use a hip hamock. Our 10 month old dd is around 25+ pounds. We've been using it for several months. i haven't tried other hip carriers.

I love it! basically, it holds her how i would carry her without a carrier, and I am less likely to stand with my hip jutted out (which wrecks my back)(where's the o-my-aching-back smilie?). Also, I sometimes swing her around so she's on my back, which she sometimes loves. I think the Hip Hammock makes it easier to carry dd, but i also think it isn't ever going to be easy again...since she's just getting bigger and bigger!

Oh yeah, with a sling (which i still occassionally use) at this age I need to keep my hands on her. With the Hip Hammock, i can really be hands free, which is soo useful!
