I'm in need of a sling for carrying a 12 mo. old on my back. I have a kangaroo korner pouch that I just love but it does not work for washing dishes, gardening, laundry, etc. There are so many slings out there I'm not sure which one is really best for this, so ....

What are others' opinions about the best sling for back-carrying a baby?

THANKS!!!!

I don't know if you consider wraps to be "slings", but I definitely think wraps are the best for back carries. There is so much versatility in the types of back carries you can do with a woven wrap, and you can really get baby high and tight. If a wrap isn't your cup of tea, mei tai's are also good for back carries, particularly for older babies and toddlers. I haven't had much luck with pouches or ring slings for back carries.

I agree, you'll want a wrap, a mei tai, or a structured mei tai like the Ergo or bECO so you can do two-shouldered carries.

I completely agree with the wrap advice! Since you'll be carrying a 12 mo. old, I would go with a woven wrap. You can get a good secure wrap with an older baby in a stretchy wrap, but it takes lots of practice. I could carry my sweeties for hours in a back-wrap cross carry (ok, stopping to nurse once in awhile!
)
Wraps can take a little more practice than other carriers, but they are well worth the effort! JMHO

I used my Over the Shoulder Baby Holder all the time for a back carrier. We moved when ds was almost a year, and I have this great picture (made dh take it!!!) of ds on my back while I'm carrying boxes. I used it until my little ones were pretty big on my back. Now I have a Bei Bei though that goes on my back that I love. It's very comfortable to wear. When I got it - ds was probably 35 pounds, but he SO wanted a ride, so I put him in it and went for a walk. It was still pretty comfortable although, it did start to hurt my shoulders after a while.
