I had this with my DD too. While at work, I pump more milk than my kids take. DS is taking about 8 oz at DC, I pump 12-16 oz. This is a good thing so I can get a freezer stash going. BUT on the days where I am home (weekends mostly) I get all engorged because he doesn't eat as much as I pump. I was off yesterday. By 4 pm I HAD to pump becasue i was so uncomfortable. He was home with me, WTF?

In the last 7+ weeks I have gotten a plugged duct 4 times, one turned to mastitis. That is way too often. It is always on the right side, probably the same darn duct actually. Last night i felt the pain of the clog after I had to pump. It lasted for like 5 hours, but today it seems to be better.

I know i probably need to kick myself for complaining about having too much milk, but there it is.

That is the thing, I only pump for 5-10 mins. It comes out fast. And I don't have a great pump, it is a 4+ years old PY that has been in major use for at least 2.5 of those years. i have to pump at least 2 times at work or i get the plug issue.

It *should* regulate by 3-4 months if you can stick it out until then - I had a huge oversupply at the beginning and it regulated by 4.5 months. I would just pump the way you are at work and then if it looks like you are needing to pump at home, pump away. It will regulate and you won't make quite so much eventually.

do you think it's an issue of pumping too often? some people it just doesn't take much to make milk. (I know i could continue to make it for weeks even if nobody was sucking and i wasn't pumping! seriously all it took was rubbing up against my shirt to start the flow of milk!)

if this doesn't work I would consider some more extreme methods... like only hand pumping (never using a pump).

try to start with the least extreme thing ot control it and see how that works. if not step it up a knotch.

people are always leary of helping people control their milk supply b/c a lot of people struggle with not having enough milk. and it's goes against the grain to think someone could actually have too much
