Has anyone seen this program? I doubt they'll ever show it in America.

From SBS:
THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT Presenter Marcel Theroux discovers that the real war is not on terror: it is between nature and humans. Left unchecked, global warming could bankrupt the world economy within our children's lifetimes. Marcel travels through Europe, India and Chernobyl to talk to scientists, insurers and even the chairman of the global oil giant Shell, all of whose comments share a terrifying echo: if we are to avoid cataclysmic climate changes, we must massively reduce carbon dioxide emissions immediately. This Channel 4 documentary investigates this compelling issue that is relevant to all who inhabit this planet. In the words of Sir David King, chief scientific advisor to the British government, 'Global warming is the biggest problem facing us this century... bigger even than the problems of global terrorism'. (From the UK)

EVEN THE CHAIRMAN OF SHELL, LORD OXBURGH SAID 'IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT WE ARE SEEING WARNING SIGNS THAT WE NEGLECT AT OUR OWN PERIL.'

The facts are undeniable: clear increases in the incidence of extreme weather patterns, a 40 per cent reduction in the size of polar ice caps and villagers who have to move further inland each year as their homes disappear under water. Sea levels could rise 40 feet. This is within OUR lifetime. We're talking world famine. An environmentalist on the show said that, as dangerous as it may be, nuclear power is our only hope-Another Chernobal would not be as serious as what would happen if we did nothing. They mentioned alternatives like wind and solar power, but the problem is, time is short. It's not enough. At the end they said we have 2 choices, we can stop using electrical appliances or we can start building nuclear reactors.

Yes, I know, it's all a hoax. And even if it is true, don't worry. The Christians will be sucked up in the Rapture and the rest of us will be rescued by aliens.

Our children will curse us.

P.R. for the nuclear industry on the verge of making a comeback?

The issue is really more about driving too many cars than using too many electrical apliances. But, both need serious reduction, this is true. The main culprit has been the internal cumbustion engine, and not the blender or computer. As it is written up, the above description is suspect. But, the underlying truth is correct. There needs to be an immidiate reduction in greenhouse gasses. Stop driving so much, America.

they said that while cars certainly add to the problem of greenhouse gases, the bigger problem was the burning of coal.

the environmental websites say that carbon dioxide is the main contributer to greenhouse gases.

but you could be right about the pr for nuclear power..

i just talked to my friend who was one of the authors of the hypothesis of what would happen worldwide as a result of global warming. he said the damage has already been done and we are now seeing the results he predicted. also, he said that where we live has been determined to be the safest place to be. no wonder the environmentalists are moving here. [not that any of us will survive anyway]

as long as the price of gas in america stays relatively low, that isn't going to happen. i know prices have gone up recently, but it's still nowhere near what other countries pay. australia's is double theirs. you see SUV's here, but not like the big-ass ones you see in america.
