I just posted in the CD forum, but I'm wondering here if anyone has used the Flips and what do you think? I feel like maybe this could be my less often laundry solution, but not sure.

Any CDing mamas out there---could you, with enough inserts, only do laundry every 5 or 6 days (assuming you put the inserts in water?)

I haven't seen these in person but from looking at the website, I'm not sure how this would be different than using covers and prefolds. Except that this is perhaps a slightly different style of cover? We used covers and prefolds exclusively with our daughter and rarely had poop get on the covers. Most of the time we'd toss the pf in the pail and reuse the cover, just wiping it off if a little poo got on it or hanging it up to dry if it got a little wet. The covers contributed very little to our laundry pile. As far as laundry frequency, you could do diaper laundry once a month if you had enough diapers, though you'd have a lot of stinky, dirty ones to stash somewhere. I probably averaged twice a week for my diaper laundry. I think at first I had maybe 6-8 covers and a couple dozen prefolds.

These days, I wash about every 5-6 days with our mix of diapers (all styles and varieties). The downside to not washing frequently (3 days is a recommended max) is that the urine and fecal matter will actually breakdown the diapers. At 5-6 days it's not too bad, but don't leave a wet bag in the car for a month.

I've been using the Flip because G Diapers were my travel (or didn't-do-the-laundry) back up solution, but G dipes were getting too small for my 2 year old DD. So, I've been using the Flips with G Diaper inserts in a pinch. I will probably use the Flip for new baby, but with prefolds. Two nice things about them are that they do not have Velcro, and they are one size. In my experience, no matter how careful you are about laundry, Velcro tabs do not hold up longer than 8 months. We'll be buying wraps with snaps, only, this time around.

Hope this helps!

I haven't used them personally but I've researched a ton about them! From the reviews that I read, the main complaint was how thin they were. Not sure how long they will last. The reason that I'm not going with them is because of all the snaps on the front. DH and family wouldn't want to change and/or prepare dipes with all of the snaps. (hard enough convincing them to go along with CDing in the first place..) I ordered some gDiapers and SoftBums..I plan on using gdiapers during the day with cloth unless we are traveling (via airplane) and the softbums at night. I bought some organic cloth inserts from the Nappy Shoppe.com to use with the g's. I've read many reviews about the velcro going out so I am converting them to snaps myself. After watching some tutorials, it doesn't look all that hard. Good luck on your cloth diaper research! You could always buy one and see how you like it!

Hmmmm....this helps a lot.

I see what you're saying caseykn about them not being much different from prefolds and wraps. I think it's that you use just a pad type absorbent piece, and the covers won't get dirty. We're still a really long way from being about to do it, but I may just order some and see where we get.

How hard is it to make your own diaper absorbent pieces? Or can you get them cheap in bulk?

I'm seriously such a newbie to this I know my questions are a bit basic!
