Since I overheard someone speaking of a baby shower and saying not to give diapers as a gift and was informed that the expecting mother would be potty-training from birth I was intrigued. I researched EC on-line and ordered a book about it. I soon became pregnant and intended to use the method. I was discouraged by my mother who thought it ridiculous and convinced to use the diapers provided at the hospital because it seemed so easy. I also did not think my little boy would enjoy being held over a bowl while nursing. We experienced BF problems for about 9 weeks and that kept me from reconsidering EC. But as things calmed down I realized that I knew every time my son (Ish) was going to poop. He had also ceased to poop while nursing. I started to think of EC again and planned to try it when my husband went to work. Ish and I got up early with my husband for a diaper change and for some reason I just decided to hold him over the sink(I had done this once or thice before when he was younger between diapers, with success) Ish peed immediately and my husband looked over and said "Wow! Did he just pee in the sink? What made you decide to do that?" I told him I had been considering it for awhile and he was all for it(He had been supportive of the idea before but also supported my decision to diaper). It turned out that my DH got the day off from work and together we learned Ish's timing by laying him on a towel and watching the clock. Ish was about three and a half months old and peed about every ten minutes for an hour after each nursing(he nurses on demand about every hour) he also had about four bowel movements a day.
We started about a week and a half ago and though we were very successful(catching most poops and many pees) I was not as diligent for about half of those days because we were visiting friends and had alot of distractions. I diapered Ish and only brought him to potty if I was certain he needed to go and was in a good mood. I was shy about him fussing when I tried to potty him. After a couple days of diapering Ish I realized that his timing had changed and we were out of sync. Yesterday I put him in cloth diapers all day (with some naked time) and set out to relearn his timing. I dicovered that he can now wait a few minutes to pee after nursing instead of needing to pee instantly. He still pees within minutes of waking up but then he can wait 20 minutes or more between pees and sometimes goes longer.
Ok, so here is the really amazing part. He is conciously signaling, waiting and going on cue!!! My husband tried to potty him but he screamed so I tried to nurse him instead. I ended up rocking him on my shoulder and snuggling him and then I gave him to my husband for some playtime. Then we realized that he hadn't peed in an hour. My husband brought him to the sink, cued him and he peed instantly! During the day I was distracted by a phone call from my Mom and Ish started fussing and wouldn't nurse. He kept latching and unlatching, which either means he is tired or needs to potty, but I was being dense so once I got off of the phone he peed in his diaper and as soon as I changed him he was happy! Ok so here is the most recent development. This morning I wanted to stay in bed because the last two nights have been a bit interrupted. Ish was fussing and fussing and I thought sleepily, he can just use his diaper and I will change him(I wasn't certain, if that was why he was fussing but I had a feeling and was ignoring it) Finally I got up with Ish, removed his diaper and held him over the sink. He stopped fussing as soon as he was in position, visibly pushed and pooped and peed in the sink!!!!
If I didn't believe that Ish was participating before I believe it now! This is the most amazing thing and Ishmael has made it clear that he likes this method and there is no turning back.
I started reading these forums for support and I hope this little story inspires others as much as it has me!

It is so exciting to see your DC actively signaling and waiting for you to offer the potty. The first dry diaper in the morning is wonderful too...
