Am I the only one having a hard time watching the news more so now that I'm pregnant?

Watching the coverage today on the Omaha mall shooting had me crying into my spaghetti in the middle of my living room. This man was giving tips on what to do if you're in that situation and what to do if you're in that situation with your kids. Just imagining myself in that situation with my kids is more than I can bare. Now that I'm having three I feel even more... I don't know, helpless... if this were to ever happen. (Which I know statistically the odds are very low.)

It didn't help to see the pictures of the moms clutching their kids coming out of the mall. Those poor people. ::

Anybody else unable to watch all this bad news?

You're not alone. Yesterday I found myself flipping from channel to channel looking for some non-upsetting news. I finally settled on the weather: rain today! woo!

We only watch the local news at my home (if we watch it at all). Its usually much more positve.

But, TV programs make me emotional. I feel like a basketcase these days. Last week, I was watching the 25 year celebration of Nature on PBS. I was sitting there sobbing over the story on elephants, it was so beautiful. And don't even get me started on anything Hallmark. . .

I find that it's not even only bad news that sets me off. Today I went to the toy store to buy gifts for our local Christmas toy drive, and I started crying as I was dropping the toys into the big bin. I was just thinking about this baby inside me, and how fortunate and loved she will be... and then about the children that would get those toys, the ones who have so very little. Didn't stop crying until I left the mall parking lot...

I was a CNN junkie until I was pregnant with DS, then I had to totally stop watching the news because it made me cry.

It was at least 2 or maybe 3 years before I could watch even the local news again. Hormones, gotta love 'em. Plus that feeling you get in your gut whenever you see any news about a child being injured or killed. Before I had children of my own I would think how sad, but it never really hit me in a truly painful way until I had my own, yk? I don't think that ever goes away.

We rarely watch any news. It seems every time we turn on the local news there are stories of child abuse, sexual and physical. Neither dh or I could stand it anymore, so we quit watching.

Yes, I hear you!! I don't watch much news right now, but I'm studying some really heavy stuff at school... development, poverty, child mortality, the Rwandan genocide... and OMG. I have had to hold back tears more times than I can tell you. I had to go to the Jewish Film Fest for a class and there was this film basically about a little ten year old whose parents intended to leave him with his grandfather because they had to run for political reasons, only the grandfather was dead when he got there and the Jewish community in Sao Paulo took him in, but it's like 2 hours of this little boy pining desperately for his parents. I barely made it to my car before I started sobbing.

Usually I'm not like this.
