I wanted to recommend The Number Devil by Hans Magnus Enzensberger. This is a fabulous book, and an educational computer game has just been released based on it. Here is a description from amazon:

I bought the book for my DC last fall and just got the game. Both are amazing!

We've owned and greatly enjoying this book for the past five years. I knew there was a computer CD-ROM out, but I hadn't heard from anyone who had actually used it. Glad to hear it's worthwhile. Thanks for posting.

It says ages 10 and up, be we all know that kids develop at different ages.

My ds is 6 and is really into math and its concepts right now. Is this worth getting for him now??? A read for him(about grade 2 level) or for me to him???

My DS started reading it at age 6 and DD age 5 is using the game-- it's one of the age 5-100 books.
