I just spent so much time typing answers to the questions and my computer lost them all! It compliments my life lately, which is crazy. I'm nesting in a big way and have decided that the entire inside of our house must be repainted before the baby arrives, so I've been in the kitchen for the past few days with a paintbrush and roller full of VOC-free paint in my hands. Walls are finished, but the cabinets are going to be major, and will need 3 coats each! We have a small house, but I think I have a couple of months of painting ahead of me. Tomorrow, I'm working on kitchen trim and cabinets and maybe starting on the entryway!

Good so far. I have energy again, but not enough to accomplish all that I've put on my plate. I am battling some really bad headaches, though and insomnia

how does your daughter feel about impending sisterhood?

She turns 2 January 19, so she's still a little young and I don't think she really understands what is going on, though we talk about it quite a bit... especially about how she is going to have to share nursing with her little brother. Any suggestions of books for her, etc... are greatly appreciated! :)

how are you preparing for your vbac (physically and emotionally)?

Physically, I'm doing exercises and drinking RRL tea... I really don't know what else to do. Suggestions? Emotionally, I'm praying. I know what needs to happen... basically, my body needs to go into labor on its own, before my water breaks. My last labor and delivery is a long story. Basically, I'm just hoping I stay well and out of the hospital this pregnancy and that the baby doesn't settle into OP. I'm also hiring a doula.

how did you meet your dh?

We tell people that we met through Neil Diamond, but that's a long story that I already typed and lost so the short story is that we met at a bar.

what's the farthest you've ever traveled from home?

I'd have to look at a map. I'm pretty much a homebody, so... Oregon coast, New England, Grand Cayman or Cancun...

what's the best place you've ever visited?

I love mountains in warm weather, so North Carolina mountains, Oregon coast, Arkansas, Texas Hill Country... I also LOVE NYC, DC and the New England area

what's one place to which you hope to travel one day?

Japan, Czech Republic (though as a vegetarian, I wonder how I'd fare)

how did you find mdc?

a friend :)

what's your favorite forum (besides ours, of course )?

I don't have one... I visit others only for singular, issue-specific questions

tell us about your extended family. many siblings? how about your dh?

I have a sweet sister who just moved an hour from me (from Boston) so I am excited to have her close. She has my nephew, who is one year and two days younger than my daughter, so I'm really excited for them to have the opportunity to grow up together. My husband has two half-sisters, but they are only casually in contact.

how are you raising your daughter differently than you (or dh) were raised (if at all)?

I'm really trying to focus on AP, though we don't co-sleep and I don't plan to home school. She still nurses (I weened at 11 months and my husband at about 6 weeks), I wore her quite a bit, stay home with her (my mom stayed home with me until I was 10, but my husband's mom always worked). And, we haven't let her "cry it out." One big difference is how I plan to raise her. I really like Alfie Kohn and think he's an incredibly wise educator. I think I spent half of my childhood grounded, even had to cancel my 11th birthday party because I talked back (I think my mom sent me to my room, I said "no" and was then grounded for a few months.) I still have a ton of hurt from that, and other insane tactics that my parents used with me growing up. I had to earn points by doing chores to play with my friends, talk on the phone, watch TV, etc... and would be grounded for weeks, months for saying "no", or not doing things I was asked to. My parents were/still are very passive aggressive in their approach to parenting. I hope to respect my daughter for the creative individual she is and help her grow by parenting her in a way that deals with the issue at hand. I hope to help her grow into a passionate, confident individual. Confidence is key -- and something I've always lacked, and I attribute it to my parents method of parenting. I really hope I can remember this and love my daughter for who she is and not for who I want her to be and make sure she always knows and understands this.

favorite fast food restaurant?

Chipotle

were you named after anyone? was your dh? your daughter? will your next child be?

No - my parents came up with my name. My husband was originally named after his father, then his name was changed to Christopher Robin by his mother after the Winnie the Pooh character. We also have a 15-year-old dog that she gave him who is named Pooh. The line is drawn there, though :) My daughter is Harper Noelle. The inspiration for her name came from our appreciation for the artist Charlie Harper. However, my maiden name is her second middle name. Our son won't be named after anybody, but he will also carry my maiden name as a second middle name.

favorite thing to order in a coffee shop?

Caramel Macchiato

have you bought anything for the baby yet? anything you really want?

I have a gift closet that has some things for a baby boy that I may end up keeping for our little guy. Other than that, we need to figure out how we're going to fit all of us in our little house first :) Once we do that and decide on decor, themes, color scheme etc... we'll have an idea of what we need to buy.

favorite candy bar?

Twix - YUM!

what's the worst trait an individual can have?

arrogance, vanity, lying, narcissism, ...

what's your favorite time of day? it depends on the day :)

Either early afternoon or late night.

How is this pregnancy different than your last?

How many children would you like to have?

Have you ever lived anywhere else?

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?

How in the world do you paint with a 2 year old?!

BTW, my daughter will be 2 on Jan. 24th. Such a cute age! My first birth was C/S because of long labor after water broke first. Reading A Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth was very helpful. (I might have messed up the title a little, but that's close enough to find it.) In the future, I would never tell my care provider when my water breaks and just keep all hands out of there. I have since had friends who have gone days after their water breaks. (It replenishes itself. And with my second baby, my water broke twice--24 hours apart.) With my second birth, I wish I had talked more with my doula about her role in helping me avoid C/S should we wind up in the hospital, which I did for pre-E. I just don't think clearly when I'm in labor! The doula pretty much just provided comfort support instead of suggesting I get into better labor positions, etc. For the third birth, Listening to Hypnobabies and following Brewer's diet (tons of protein) was helpful. I was so prepared and confident for my VBA2C last time. Unfortunately it wasn't to be because my homebirth midwife dropped me after I was 10 days late. That left me with zero options in IL==just RCS. Sorry so long! I shared hoping you'll learn something from my experiences and have a successful VBAC. Good luck to you!

The main difference is that I'm at home and not in the corporate world... so much less stress! I'm taking better care of myself, too. My last pregnancy became scary and crazy at 6 months... I'm just about five now, and hoping for continued wellness!

How many children would you like to have? I'd like three, but my husband just wants two, so I was secretly hoping for twins this time around :) Only time will tell if he'll change his mind. He's already talking the "big V"

Have you ever lived anywhere else? just in west Texas and the Dallas area...

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live? Somewhere in the country near a quaint artist's town, but close to a city with the amenities I'm accustomed to. I'd really like a couple of acres with a brook running through it. I'd like goats and chickens and bees... (I can have chickens and bees where I live, and have preliminary plans for a chicken coop, but it's been put on a back burner for about a year... there is too much that we need to do around the house first before the baby arrives.)

How in the world do you paint with a 2 year old?! When she's sleeping, at Mother's Day Out or out on errands or dates with her daddy! Needless to say, there are other things such as cleaning that are being sorely overlooked right now. Though, I did scrub my oven this morning, as she cleaned her play kitchen and made me soup with her wooden veggies.

Thanks for sharing! I'm hopeful and positive. Last time, it was necessary for me to to to the hospital after my water broke (though I did wait about 8 or nine hours) even though I hadn't had any contractions. I had been hospatilized a few times for major infection, and had just been out for about two weeks before my daughter arrived and I think it had just been days since I had my last oral antibiotic, and my white count was still high -- just barely in the normal range. I'm interviewing doulas now and will find one that will serve as both a coach, and my advocate!

What did you think of it? It was good, but I feel like I should probably watch it again... it didn't have my full attention, and I know there are many things I missed

What are some of your favorite movies? I can't think of FAVORITES, but so many I've really liked. At the top of my mind: Mary and Max, The Triplets of Bellville, Elegy, Strings, many Cohen brother movies (the ones without the gore) Little Miss Sunshine, Sunshine Cleaning, I Like Killing Files, The Story of the Weeping Camel, Gypsy Caravan, I could go on and on...

Least favorites? anything with war, gore or fighting... I also really disliked Napoleon Dynamite
