Hello all you lovely Midwives, Doulas, Childbirth Educators, Doctors, Nurses, Students, Wannabes, &c!

We (and especially I, your friendly local moderator) are considering changing the name of this subforum, from "Midwives, Doulas, and Childbirth Educators" to something both shorter and more inclusive, since I know we also have wonderfully birth-trusting doctors and others who regularly post here. One proposal so far has been for "Birth Workers".

We want to know what YOU the community think - do you like the title the way it is? Do you have any suggestions for its change?

Tell us what you think! :

Speaking as someone who regularly recommends people go ask stuff in "that forum with all the trained people, you know midwives and stuff", "Birth Workers" sounds fabulous.

Is Birth Professionals too formal?

It is just that we are, but by many folks who are just learning about us they really wonder about what catagory we fit into, like the outer realm of the real medical professionals...and that is so not true.

We are a core of support for emotional, physical and educational aspects of pregancy and birth, and can make all the difference within the system, outside the system for families.

What do you think?

What about Birth Specialists...

or Birth Artists

or Birth Pros

or Birth Big Shots

or Birth Gurus

or any of the above with Pro before Birth....

Just some suggestions.

Oh, I'm on the fence....I like Birth Worker in particular because, IMO, it seems less sterile. Does that make sense? Birth Professional seems sorta cold to me. BUT, I see how using the word professional better explains who we are. So, I guess I'm not much help!!!

I was thinking that too... but at the same time, who are we explaining it to? I guess if it's to the lay person, it makes sense, but to the MDC crowd.. it's just another fun title for a forum...

What about Birth Junkies?

Birth workers sounds...off to me. And Birth Junkies would include those that do volunteer work, as well as those who haven't completed training yet.

But Birth Junkies would imply to some people that those who are obsessive about birth could post. Some do here anyway LOL But I like to come to this specific forum for threads specific to this field and get professional advice YKWIM?
