Well, it's a homeschooling group. Is that what you're looking for? I think it's primarily for making social connections for parents and kids. It's not really an academic group although THEA members do, of course, share info about cool classes, happenings, books, curriculum, etc. It's pretty loose. They have park days every week where folks just go hang at a park for the afternoon. It's primarily Durham/Chapel Hill based.

Chapel Hill Homeschoolers is much more academic focused (for lack of a better term). They organize lots of activities and have a Friday Enrichment series of classes in the spring and fall that runs for 8 weeks maybe? They have classes in all sorts of areas from physics to preschool.

Both groups are open and welcoming to all sorts of folks and are secular. Many homeschoolers in the area belong to both.

If that's something you're interested in I can find some contact info for you.

I would appreciate that! I thought I had seen THEA mentioned on here somewhere, but now I can't find it. The search function doesn't always work right for me though.

THANKS!

We're members, but my DD broke her arm at one of the gatherings back in March so she and DH haven't had a chance to go back recently. Once the cast is off, she'll be back into it. Many of her friends go weekly.

You must meet another member at one of the park playdates or elsewhere before you gain access to the online membership I believe.

It's a well-organized weekly park gathering, but the parks are all in CH and Durham, which could be a hike for you if you're in Morrisville.

I'll PM you the contact info. Holli is correct. You'll need to meet them at the park to be approved. It's understandable they don't want to give out private info to random internet people.

Well, we drive 22 miles to Hillsborough for preschool, so that's not a problem. Plus we actually live in Durham County. It's really not that far for us at all... we're about 14 miles from the center of CH and 12 from the center of Durham.

Thanks everyone!! I'm just really crossing my fingers for homeschooling next year.

I was under the impression that you have to attend a play date first? Other than that I have no idea! Someone gave me the email address for a contact person once, but I can't find it. So NOT like me!

Yes, you are supposed to attend a park playdate I guess so we can verify that you are an actual person and not some weird internet lurker.
The next meetup is November 11th at Wilson Park, in Carrboro. People usually start arriving around 2 pm or so. It's a fun group (once you get in!)

Count me in, if someone can tell me when an upcoming meeting is. My husband and some of my kids accidentally happened upon a playdate at Umstead park today! Does that count?

If not, we'll try to make the next one.

Anyone looking to meet up with THEA is more than welcome to PM me. I can tell you where the park day will be. Weather has really been running havoc on meeting up lately, but Spring will be here soon.

Looking for the same info :) Have you found anything out yet? We are going to begin homeschooling my Kindergarten aged son this Fall and would love to get involved with some local groups.

You might also be interested in Chapel Hill Homeschoolers. They have a website and email list. http://www.chapelhillhomeschoolers.com . It's a little more organized than THEA. THEA is pretty much just the park days and an email list. I'll try to contact someone on the list who can advise on how to get involved with the group.

Thanks so much, beanma! I joined the CHH group a week or so ago, although I don't believe there are any active meetups taking place right now during the summer. Looking forward to getting involved :)
