I was musing about this as I put 3 yo dd in the bed. She was asleep and I took the opportunity to kiss her and smell that wonderful aroma that she has. Still nursing at 3, I marvel at how her breath still smells like breastmilk after a short nursing session and how her skin just smells yummy.

Not to mention exclusively breastfed ds, 6.5 months. I've had people ask what I bathe him in because he smells AWESOME. Funny, that would be the week I hadn't bathed him for about 10 days (got to love those spot washes :LOL ). I am tickled to reply, "Nothing, I haven't bathed him in like a week. That is just how he smells!" MMMMMM! That sweet milky mouth smell and that warm, sweet, incredibly smooth skin.

Add in that amazing "milk-drunk" look that melts into the peaceful relaxation and bliss from nursing.......could there be anything better???? Yes, breastfed kids of any age are the epitome of aesthetic perfection. A treat for the senses. I'm so glad I have two!

I agree totally. But, dd never had the milk drunk look or the relaxed bliss look. I b/f to 21 months, and she certainly enjoyed it. I just wish she hadn't treated it as a wrestling match. (She always won.)

A co-worker commented on how nice my DS smells. She mentioned she had only ever been around formula-fed babies and how he didn't have that "weird graham cracker smell".

Yep, same with my DS, I love it! His breath always smells so sweet (OK, not after he has eaten something with garlic) and his skin is so smooth and soft. He's so much fun to cuddle and kiss!

:LOL I nuzzle ds and kiss him all over and tell him I just want to eat him up and dh laughs and says I can't. They do smell so good. Well except when the milk gets stuck in the neck crevices lol.

Haha, I was going to post that, as well. Gotta love the neck cheese!

great post. Makes me want to go in and nuzzle my little sleeping sweetheart. I was just commenting tonight to DH about how much I love nursing my 13 month old. I hope it continues and continues and continues...

Me too! Teaghans mama, our dd's are only a day apart! And reading these posts made me tear up, as i just realized i haven't seen the "drunk" look for quite some time, but I remember how it was the most precious expression...and I'm realizing I don't have a picture of it. How sad.

Oh, and I can't forget, I love it when DS "nurses" in his sleep! He did it a lot when he was younger, we have it on video - it's so sweet to watch the little mouth move. Dreaming of boobies!

I had an older mother ask to hold my baby so she could smell 'a real baby.' She said she really missed that and she looked so happy holding the baby, her nose on my child's forehead. I thought that was a little odd at the time but then realized that when I'm not nursing, I hold her just under my nose.

I love this thread, it is just sooooo true! My 2 y/o seems so "big" and "wild" when he is running around, but when he is nursing, he looks exactly like he did at 3 months, so sweet so gentle so fat and pink-----sniff sniff----

Also, what about this phenomenon that at least DH and I have decided might be "real"--- how soft and babyish our kids' faces are well into age 4, 5, 6....seems like some non-nursing tots and preschoolers look thin and grown up wayyy too early. We think the nursing makes them keep little fat cheek pads or something????

Anyways, love it love it looking forward to tandem nursing this new one--todays my due date and nothin yet........

*sigh*

Here is my baby's milk drunk look, the only milk-drunk picture I have. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45...uglas/full.jpg

Oh, I am going to miss that smell when my kids are big! I even like the neck cheese, but mostly I just love Reese's sweet breath and yummy cheeks. I keep meaning to take some nursing photos of him looking up at me with that adoring expression. I never took any of Griff and now those days are gone except for a few memories.
