I am so excited. I had an u/s yesterday and both of my babies are head down with one of their heads right on my cervix. Two weeks ago one was head down and the other was breech. I know they could change possitions, but I really hope they stay this way. The doctor wants to pull the 2nd baby out if it breech, which I of course do not want done, but if the 2nd baby is head down he gets to come out on his own. After having ds at home it has been hard enough accepting going to the hospital at all, but the thought of them pulling my baby out just seems horrible.

The babies were also about a weeks ahead for all measurements (I am sure on my dates) except the heads, they were 2 1/2 weeks ahead. I guess I am having big headed babes like ds was!

Yay! Congrats on them both having their heads down! How exciting. I hope that they stay that way for you. I am glad that they are growing big and strong mama!

That is great news!! Good for you! Maybe those big heads are weighting them in the right direction.

I was also happy to learn at this weeks u s that mine was head down. (Feels like the movements are all over the place - I had no idea what position it was in!)

Does anyone have any good tips to help keep them that way?

Hi Sarah:

So exciting about babies' positioning! Hope they stay that way. At least they are "practicing" the very best position!

Mine were both transverse until last week, when the lower, bigger baby decided to go vertex facing my back--perfect--who knows where it will travel to next. The other piece of great news that I got was that my placenta is no longer condsidered low....with a placenta previa I would have had a guaranteed c-section.

I'm feeling fairly nervous about the second baby's presentation (and all the other things that are beyond my control!!) since I understand that once the first baby is delivered the second one can pretty much do as it pleases. I'm getting some pressure from my ob to have an epidural since she says they often have to go in with their hands and manipulate the second baby and that I wouldn't want them to do that with no epidural.....what are you hearing about that and a twin birth?

Also, my babies are both very large, presenting baby is 98th percentile and upper baby is 92nd (!!).

Hope all continues to go well for you!

Hi - sorry, I have no business being in this forum, lol
just saw this post from the main page... but I wanted to mention that I was at a twin birth as a doula last year, and did a ton of good reading & research in preparation for it. The experience really confirmed a lot about what to do (and not do!!!) for a natural twin birth. Feel free to pm me if you want to hear more about the lessons from that birth or read some of the links & best books we found.

Anyway, best of luck for a happy & healthy pregnancy! btw this mama carried her little ones to 39.5 weeks, very strong & healthy (despite strong urges from her OBs to induce).

take care, mb

That's great news about the babies positions!

When I had my oldest the dr pulled on the cord & it became detached from the placenta & she had to go "fishing" for the placenta. I've been told, since, that this doesn't happen often & that there was probably something wrong with the cord otherwise something so strong wouldn't have just snapped like that.

Anyhow, I had an epi but it was not working throughout the labor/delivery so I felt her reaching up into me, trying to pull the placenta out. It was the most disgusting feeling ever. I don't really know how else to explain it. It was very painful, too. If I knew they'd be having a hand up somewhere near my rib cage, I might opt for some sort of pain relief. But you also have the option of just telling them no, you can't do that to me & just allowing nature to take its course, no matter how much they may want to intervene.

Good luck!

What do you mean, the doc wants to "pull" the baby out if it's breech? You mean pull him out vaginally or do a c-sec? I though it was extremely dangerous to pull on a breech baby, cuz you could break their neck that way (sort of remembering this from reading something on emergency childbirth)?

Anyway, I hope they both stay head down!

ninafel - My OB also says that I should get an epideral for the same reasons, but I just told him no. I am sure that if they do something it will be exteremly painful, but it should not last long and I am sure I can handle it as long as it is very temporary. That's great your babies are so big! They didn't tell me what percentile mine are in, but they are bigger than average. At my 28 week u/s they were 2 lb 12oz and 2 lb 13oz.

Wendy - I do mean pull the baby out vaginally. I guess it is pretty common with twins to pull out the 2nd baby. My doc said that is just what he does automatically, but he told me that if the baby was frank breech he would let him be born naturally. I watched a video about twins from The Farm and have talked to a home birth mw and both do the same thing if the baby does not come out quickly. I talked to other doctors about this also and most will just do a c-section if either baby is breech. It seems stupid to me that they do this, but it just what they all seem to do. I had a home birth with ds and all of this hospital stuff has been really hard to deal with. There is not a mw that lives close enough to me that will deliver twins, so that is out.
