is there anything I can give my 16mo to help her sleep. Now, I hesitate to post this because I do NOT mean drugging her for a long carride, or to give to her every night when *I* feel it's bedtime. But sometimes she gets overly tired and she just can not go to sleep on her own, even when nursing and co-sleeping. Poor thing just tosses and turns, crying.

I think someone mentioned on here in a recent thread soemthing they gave their little one to help calm them down.

Any ideas...

You could try rescue remedy or Hyland's Calms Forte, or maybe a bath
(with something like California Baby's Tired and Cranky Bubble Bath - although for some babies a bath is too stimulating).

You might also take a look at the No Cry Sleep Solution to get some ideas about what might help her (e.g. does she need an earlier bedtime, shorter/longer nap, bedtime routine, etc). There's some good info in there on sleep patterns and getting to sleep. Its worth reading.

If you have tried all the homeopathic and herbal options then you might consider meletonin. There is very little research in children, but what there is is positive. It can be used to help child reset body clock and develop a healthy sleep rhythum.

I'd try the epsom salt bath followed by a gentle foot rub with steam distilled lavender essential oil (the oils you get at WF or local HF store may not be true lavender). Some babes are very sensitive and need this diluted in a carrier oil like sweet almond or jojoba, but I've been using it straight on dd since she was a month old.
