I went to my mom's house for the weekend and brought my cloth with me. She convinced me to wash it, even though I didn't want to for various reasons (also because who knows about how my routine would translate to her water, right?) so in the end I decided I would just do it and fix it later. I didn't want to use too much water either so I just put them in the machine with some detergent, pressed start, and hoped for the best. So what's normally a prewash with extra rinse at the end was just a wash and single rinse at my mom's house...

... and damned if they did not come cleaner than they have EVER come! My microfiber is bright white with no single solitary hint of stink!
:

I told her I'm moving in! or at least going over there once a week to wash stuff!

This is so unfair!

That is too funny! It reminds me of a time I had to wash my dipes at a laundrymat out of necessity and there was no way I was paying for 2 cycles!! So I just did a normal hot wash/cold rinse and my diapers sparkled! They were whiter than they have ever been!

I think her water is better than mine but I'm not sure if it's softer or whether that would be better or worse. She has some kind of maytag top loader, it didn't look magical! My sister says she's had the same experience with other clothes and doesn't think it's the macine itself. But the machine's cycle took a lot longer so I just doubled mine... we'll have to see but I'm not holding my breath!

Everything came out so SOFT too! The washcloth velour is so soft and the flannel too and the terry no longer feels rough! no fair! And we have a water softener. I wonder if there's a way to make it even SOFTER?

Oh I am so annoyed about this I can't stop thinking about it

At least if I have some severe stink issues I think I'm gonna just sneak on over there and wash stuff

FTR I used the same detergent there as I do here.

Does she maybe have her hot water heater turned up much higher? The hotter the water, the cleaner the stuff, IME. And was the detergent the same, or did she use something different from what you use at home? Hey, if anything, just go over there once a month and give everything a deep clean

Hi there,

What detergent do you all use? I am in Ontario, Canada and use a Canadian-made, hypoallergenic, all-natural, unscented one for my diapers called Nature Clean.

HOWEVER, I find our machine does carry that 'odour' often, and if there's another decent product out there that's available here, I'd be willing to try it!

Thanks!

the heat thing may be the angle to check into.

How far is your washer from the hot water heater? If it's quite far, the 'hot' water may not actually be hot, but rather the cool water that is sitting in the pipe between your washer and the heater. My mom has this issue with her dishwasher. She has to run the sink until the water is hot and THEN turn on the dishwasher.

it's possible her water is hotter, but mine is closer to the heater (well hers isn't that far) but in either case both machines had water that was very hot to the touch (yes I do check when washing

Putting Baking Soda in with your CDs will make the water softer.

Also, there is a washing machine (quite pricey, though) that has a Sanitary cycle (155 deg.) with a water heater inside it...We have it and I love to wash my CDs at least 1-2 times a week in that cycle. It is the Seimens (or Bosch) ultraSense plus washer.
