I nursed all day yesturday with the SNS and Carter did great. Except he fell asleep every time and it took well over an hour to feed him. After he nursed I checked to see if he was emptying me and he did everytime. I have been turning off the SNS in the beginning and letting him nurse on my milk and then when he starts to fuss I turn it on. I did not pump after any nursing sessions, it was just to much after the time it took him to finish. I did pump twice last night and at each pump session I managed to get a good little supply out, definately more than I have ever gotten. He nursed again thismorning and it only took him 50 min. He is getting about 2 ounces of suppliment, which is less than he has taken before.

I am so glad he's using the SNS. In only the one day we've used it I noticed an increase in my fullness and at the pump. So, I guess I will be home bound for the next little while so we can continue nursing with the SNS(small price to pay). I am going to try to just use the SNS for awhile and see what happens. If he's emptying my breast and I'm getting a good 20 min of baby stimulation on each side, then that has to be enough. Right? Well, we'll see.

We did'nt go to our appointment yesturday, I had a blonde moment. I wanted to use the SNS all day and did'nt want to risk him having a bad nursing session without it. It did'nt dawn on me that we could subtract what he supplimented to get an amount of injested bm.

I think you are definitely doing the right thing by using the SNS. If your baby will accept it, it is the best way to go if you must supplement because the babe is getting all his nourishment AT YOUR BREAST. That's very important b/c it stimulates your supply, he learns to suckle properly and he learns that boobs=food. I hope things continue to go smoothly for you...they do get faster as they get more efficient and your supply gets stronger. You keep pluggin away, you're doing GREAT!

Well, we just had a 2 hour nursing session!!! He was tired and wanted to sleep, but was also hungry. So, I figured out how to lay down on the sofa with him in my one arm. He fell asleep and nursed in his sleep for an hour on my one side. When he woke up we switched sides and he fell asleep and nursed for another hour. It was actually very nice. He wanted ME.
