This may be dumb but....

put a small amount on the fleece and rub it together then rinse like 8 billion times untill there are no suds.

You can also use a brush to scrub the dawn with. Then LOTS of rinses

I thought Dawn was for repelling fleece, not stink? If you have stink you need to remove what ever is causing the stink by hot HOT washing with enough detergent, then hot rinse hot rinse until all the bubbles are gone. I could be totally wrong though.
