i am in my last week. contractions have gotten pretty heavy a couple of times and i expect this baby soon. my 22 month old son is of course still nursing. up until recently about 20- 25 times a day. people tell me this is a lot but frankly i dont limit him at all and this is normal for him.

but in the last few days, suddenly and for no apparent reason, he has been nursing NON STOP. i cant even count- he is always on the boob, and makes quite a big deal out of switching back and forth. he will switch 10 times in a single nurse! my milk has not changed since i got the colostrum, it is still the same and in the same quantities...

what does this mean? does he sense the birth and need this emotionally? is there something hormonal going on? is he trying to put me in labor (i have very intense ctx during these long nursing spells) ? is this a sign baby is coming soon?

well maybe no one has an answer but perhaps someone has been here.

thanks, tabitha

Some little ones really like colostrum
For me with my oldest, I had a really hard time with the constant switching--as I get really sore when nursing thru pg. I was heartened to learn from my friends that their older nurslings were nursing like newborns (minus the nice sleeping times
) as they were reaching full-term. I found it was important to let ds have as much access to me as he needed, b/c shortly, I was going to have my hands full. At six weeks on either side of b-days and half b-days, they often go through the extra-needy phases. It might just be developmental on his part rather than hormonal on yours. Or, he could be sensing the vibe around the house---getting his mama fix
Sounds like you're doing a fabulous job of meeting his needs! Hope you have a wonderful birth!

I just wanted to say how amazing I think you are!! I have never had much success nursing thru a preganacy~~the pain in my nipples was pretty much unbearable. I know my midwife said that it doesn't happen like that with everyone, but it does for me.
I think maybe DS just senses what is going on & is trying to keep you his forever!
I found that my son needed his nummies a lot more than my daughters for comfort reasons. Just my own experience.
Hope you are well! Can't wait to her that your daughter has arrived!

hi, my dd is 2.5 yrs and my milk has changed to colostrum now that i am 28wks. but i have found that the last few weeks she has been wanting to nurse ALOT more now. we had it down just to going to bed but now she asks for it more throughout the day. i am not sure why either. we have been talking a lot about the new baby, so i am wondering if she is more aware that i give her credit for. it is tough. i thought she would wean when my milk went away, but i am thinking now i will probably be tandem nursing soon. sorry, no advice, but i am right there with you mama!
