Ivan is a champion sleeper. The past three nights he has spent the majority of the time thrashing, yelling, and crying in his sleep. Anybody else?

He is teething, but we give him Hylands teething gel and Rescue Remedy and occasional Tylenol if the others are not working.

He is not hungry or thirsty because the Mommy Fountain is right there at his service.

Could it be growing pains? We massage him and that seems to calm for the immediate time.

Could it be nightterrors or nightmares? I hate to think that. I am sure nothing bad has happened to him to cause anxiety.

Any insight?

Are you able to wake him easily when he does this or is he hard to wake up? What's his mood like when he does wake up? Night terrors are pretty rare but they do happen; usually they go away on their own after a period of time. I think my dd has bad dreams sometimes; she'll flail and cry out suddenly. Usually she doesn't wake up and it's all over within 15 seconds. Hopefully with your son it's just a temporary thing - and my understanding is it doesn't take a trauma of any kind to cause nightmares in kids, it's just the normal stresses of life, and dreams are just one way the brain processes stuff.

Thanks for the info. No, it is next to impossible to wake him up. When he wakes in the morning, really ready to wake, he is all giggles and smiles.

It sounds like night terrors to me. My daughter has them when she goes to bed way too late or when she's been away for way longer than she should (such as awake at 7am and no nap, then in bed at 10pm). They may look as though they're awake, but they're not.
