DD(7 months old)has a white patchy film on her tongue and inside of her mouth that does not come off and a red rashy bum.

The bum seem to be getting better with zinc cream treatment though...

DS(28 months) has one a red rashy bum as well but that is most likely from grazing at the blueberry patch too often.

Is this thrush? I don't know what to look for. We haven't had it before.

I don't seem to have it...

How do I know? How do I treat?

You can get genetian violet from your pharmacist (without a perscript) just make sure they use water and not alchohol as it will be going in the mouth.

You wouldn't get the white spots in your mouth, but if your breasts start itching that is probably the cause. You should treat your breasts and the baby's mouth. You can pass thrush back and forth so you both should be treated.

Also, genetian violet will stain anything BLUE, your boobs and baby's mouth will be BLUE. So er..wear dark colors while using.

A Dr can perscribe something as well (they would probably perscribe nystatin..in case you wanted to look it up) if you do not want to go genetian violet route..but some of those meds are expensive and genetian violet is pretty mild.

Give bifidus to your DD. What solids is she eating if any?

Definintely get bifidus in her (and your son too if you think he might have yeast rash too). You can also smear plain yogurt (no flavor) in her mouth and on the rash. Or you can put raw honey on the rash - it is anti-fungal and has healing properties for skin. You can also buy OTC anti-yeast cream (basically something like Monostat for women's yeast infections) and apply that to the rashes. But, if it's manifesting itself in the mouth and the bum, you should work on correcting the yeast issues inside as well through the use of Bifidus. HTH

(We're finally almost healed from thrush here ... it's been about 6 weeks ... yeast is a PITA to kill.)
