Thank goodness I have a good ND.
I've been on selenium from the second he got me as a patient. As soon as I said "I was diagnosed with hypoT.", he said "Just a minute." and went and got a bottle of it.
And apparently it's the good stuff.
ETA: I wonder what my antibody levels are like now? Back in August, they were sitting in the thousands...

It was sarcasm because this information is available in multiple places, from multiple sources, but even mentioning selenium to the endo's office I briefly worked with was like I was speaking Martian. They were clueless about the antibody-selenium relationship. They were probably dealing with a lot of people like me, and they totally missed what was actually wrong. I'm not arguing everyone with a hypo diagnosis (or symptoms _without_ a diagnosis) has mercury issues, but I think everyone should be told to think about it, put together their personal health history and their family history (you know my family history, it's classic for people with heavy metal issues, to a knowledgeable person it wasn't a huge leap) and decide if that's the underlying reason they're hypo (or hyper, like my mom).
I'm so glad you've got a good HCP, that makes such a difference. I mean, it's not magic, but I felt very alone that 1yr+ when I had horrible hypo symptoms and I just got blown off by my doc (a couple, actually). Even finding the simple solution for hypo, high doses of vitamins and minerals to supply the raw materials our bodies need, would be an improvement over the "There's nothing wrong with your thyroid, you should get some more sleep and eat better" answer that so many of us get.
