The Dalai Lama told the BBC he had received reports the death toll from the protests may be as high as 100, although he said the figure could not be verified.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7299132.stm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7297911.stm

The last figure I saw said 80 dead. The Chinese are saying 10 dead.

The Dalai Lama is asking for peace and still supports China holding the Olympic games.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7299212.stm

I guess it's OK for the Tibetans to protest their occupiers with fuel bombs and such.

Same thing she says to the Israelis when they're killing Palestinians. Why piss off one of your biggest trading partners when there are a bunch of civilian lives at stake, right? Way to go Condi.

"Dalai Lama calls for international probe into Tibet crackdown; speaks of "cultural genocide"

http://enews.earthlink.net/article/t...0316-619526361

The Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama - the public voice of a region now largely sealed off from the rest of the world - called Sunday for an international investigation into the crackdown against protesters in his homeland, which he said is facing a "cultural genocide."

"Some respected international organization can find out what the situation is in Tibet and what is the cause," he told reporters in Dharmsala, the Indian hill town where his government-in-exile has been based since he fled Tibet in the wake of a failed uprising in the late 1950s.

"Whether intentionally or unintentionally, some kind of cultural genocide is taking place," the Dalai Lama said referring to China's policy of encouraging the ethnic Han majority to migrate to the region, restrictions on Buddhist temples and re-education programs for monks.

I'm hoping people will care.. .but I have my doubts. I mean an actual genocide has been going on in Sudan and nobody seems to care.
