So...whatcha eatin'?

We've been traveling, and moving, so we are eating lots of junk food. So much I can't stand the thought of more. We had scrambled eggs, toast, peaches, and blueberries for supper. I kind of want to go repeat that right now. I'll probably just have some apple juice later.

You?

Oh it's sooo bad. I only want to eat grease. I gave up fast food for new years and have totally been sticking to it, but tonight I freakin fried chicken, french fries and zucchini. (OMG the zucchini! Sooo yummy!) EVERY single thing on my plate was fried. I like to think the spinach salad for lunch off set the horribleness of that, but I don't think it did.

Last night was white chicken/spinach lasagna, so it's not *always* this bad lol! Lunch is normally a big salad, and snacks are fruit. (I'm totally making chocolate pudding for dessert though!)

Depends on how motivated I am. Everything from steak, to fish. Last night I needed goulash, so I made some up, but tonight I am just eating a bowl of cereal. Lunches are usually just sandwiches or salads. Nothing yummier than a grilled chicken salad! I have been really loving the turkey, lettuce, tomato, pickle on rye with ranch sandwiches. Breakfast is a matter of time. Cereal, yogurt and juice, or pancakes and fruit or eggs and cheesy hashbrowns. But we did go out and buy our own industrial sized waffle iron! And went on about a month kick of waffles and bacon...
We go through about a watermelon a week, and have been eating our fair share of strawberries, cherries and raspberries for snacks.

Ohh Breakfast is fast becoming my favorite meal! I've never been a big breakfast kinda girl, but lately I've been making a HUGE brunch on the weekends. The family is in breakfast food heaven, everything from crepes (stuffed with cottage cheese and apple butter mmmmmmmm) to sasuage and biscuits.

Melons and berries have been pretty big here this summer, too.

Okay...can somebody come cook for me? Your menu sounds much more interesting than mine.

I actually bought chicken nuggets and cheese sticks at the grocery store. And frozen waffles. And pop tarts. I never buy that junk. But, I figured if we were going to be eating out, I might as well buy the corn syrup at 1/4 of the price. It makes my stomach turn to think about eating it, though.

We had a pot luck play date at my place today so last night I made the best pasta salad ever to have today... but I had some last night, lunch today, and dinner. I used whole wheat pasta, cucumbers, tomatoes, calamata olives, artichoke hearts, bell peppers, capers, and flax seed. Ok now I want more

But someone mentioned fried chicken, mmm I wish there was a KFC near by!!

This week I made my croatian grandmother's sauerkraut with kielbasa to use some of the veggies we got in our farm share over the weekend, so I've been eating that at least once a day. Man is it delicious.

Yesterday DH and a friend picked up sandwiches from my favorite local deli while I was at water aerobics and he got me a delicious panino fresco - a thick hunk of fresh mozzarella with olive salad, lettuce, and tomatoes all over it on a roll. Mmmm.

mommamisty - that pasta salad does sound great! DH and I have been making a big one every couple of weeks and I totally forgot to add artichoke hearts and capers. Those are excellent ideas. Thanks!

I've also been eating lots of fruit. I have this neat shaped white bowl that has little tiny drain holes in the bottom so I constantly have it in the fridge filled with something I can grab a handful of - grapes, strawberries, or cherries.

Oh and I hear you gals on the breakfast front. I don't eat more than just peanut butter toast during the week, but on the weekends I've been making this chorizo scramble recipe I found on food gawker and it is awesome.

What am I eating? Umm...everything. Ha!

For breakfast, I have been trying to have eggs everyday, so my favorite is breakfast tacos. Homemade (not by me!) corn tortillas, scrambled eggs with cheese, avocado slices, and homemade salsa (yes! by me and my food processor!).

Nacogdoches is a blueberry town and they're in season now so I've made blueberry pancakes, blueberry jam, berry salads (blueberries + strawberries, blackberries, fresh mint, and cinnamon), blueberry pie...I love it all.

Plus, I am gorging myself on other summer fruits: watermelon, peaches, cantaloupe, cherries. Oh my, is it lunchtime yet? Almost!

Thanks for the reminder about pasta salads y'all! Rachel Ray has a Supreme Pizza pasta salad I like to make that has a nice dressing of red wine vinegar and tomato paste, plus fresh mozzarella and pepperoni chunks, and all the veggies. Yummy! Yummy! I think I will make some this weekend. DH has been wanting pizza so much, but the hot and greasy-ness of it totally turns me off. Nice compromise!

Thanks for bringing this thread back, Just1More. I love talking about food!

What I'm not eating: white flour, added sugar, fried foods. I was really craving sugar at the end of my last pregnancy and put on a lot of weight in the third trimester. Since that time I came to terms with the fact that I'm a compulsive over-eater, so I now abstain from the foods that give me the most trouble (see above) and have a food plan that I had a whole-foods oriented nutritionist look over for me. If I didn't have that in place I'm sure I would be eating ice cream, cupcakes, and french fries EVERY SINGLE DAY.

What I am eating: lots of fruits and veggies. I can't get enough of cherries and peaches right now. And kale with olive oil and pine nuts and olives. Lots of quinoa, rice, polenta and whole wheat pasta, whole wheat pretzels. Lots of eggs. Sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. And kefir, especially with the aforementioned cherries and peaches. Lots of southwestern type chicken/bean dishes in the crock pot.

I'm also buying tons of bananas so that I have enough really ripe ones to make banana oatmeal cookies with no added sugar. They're healthy enough that we can eat them for breakfast! And Larabars and Jocolat bars, my favorite treat because they are just made from nuts, dates and other dried fruit, and cocoa. I need to learn to make them at home.

I'm trying to eat more meat and fish, because my iron was a little low when they did the bloodwork for my glucose test, so we are also eating a lot of burgers, turkey and pastured beef. And I'm trying to be better about taking my prenatal vitamin, too.

I'm also springing for the organic, all-grass-fed, non-homogenized whole milk, because my nutritionist wanted me to eat more fat and recommended I switch to 2% or whole. But it costs and arm and a leg, so I'm just drinking it at work and just getting regular organic for home. My other big indulgence has been walking to Whole Foods almost every day and getting something from the hot bar. Veggies and grains are so much more appealing when someone else is cooking them up fresh for me!

Pasta with meat sauce, rice/carrot/celery salad and strawberries. Lots and lots of strawberries. Usually with cream. I made the most delicious strawberry ice cream the other day and I could keep eating it forever. Lunches have been sardines and crackers with carrot sticks. It's easy, cheap, and healthy. I'm a teacher so it's the end of the year which means lots and lots of goodies coming to school. I try to stay away but it's hard when it's homemade brownies! Oh, our recent easy snack food is green olives. An Italian store by my house has really good, inexpensive ones so me and my toddler (yes, she has interesting food likes and dislikes) have been nibbling on a lot of those.

Well, we went out again last night. (Blech).

We went to an all you can eat pizza buffet. I made myself have water and a salad before touching any of the other tempting yummies. It worked. My pizza got cold while I ate the salad, and they didn't have any flavors I like on the buffet when I went back to check for more.

Kinda' disappointing, but...at least I mostly had salad for supper.

That looks yummy! Great pictures too.

I've been eating tons of peaches and Greek yogurt. I've been totally craving Maine lobster but haven't gotten any yet. Instead I made wild New England scallops with pasta. This baby wants beef, beef and more beef which is so ironic since I've been vegetarian and/or vegan for most of my adult life. I can't wait until I can have my normal appetite back! I can't stand eating all of this beef (though baby rewards me when I do with less morning sickness).

Dinner tonight was two over-easy eggs, two slices of whole wheat toast, and a huge glass of tomato juice. Tomato juice is one of my cravings!

Right now, though, I could go for some watermelon. With salt. Or a green apple. Yeah, with salt too.
