Sigh.

OK, we've tried this for a few weeks and my kids just aren't getting it at all. It's not too hard for them-- I've had them tested and know what level they're at-- but I guess my little Waldorf transplants just weren't meant for computerized learning. Sigh.

Moving on to Plan B-- the Learn at Home books.

Every child is different. Some kids learn great online. Others need more hands on type learning. I'm sure you'll find the style that works for your children soon.

We use Time4Learning and totally love it. We tried a Waldorf program and didn't like it at all. He loved playing fairies and things like that but he was bored with a lot of what they were doing. He wanted to learn more. We have been using T4L for 3 years now.

As for your problem...I'm sorry. Wish I had more to offer. Hmmmm. Do you school year-round? Could you break it down into fewer subjects at a time for now, covering a couple things this summer, a couple in the fall, etc? Or, if you plan to take 52 weeks to cover 36 weeks of work, just spread it out starting now? Or.....could they do a subject or two with T4L, and the rest with you? I'd also think about anything written to the student and more independent, like the later Oak Meadow levels...iirc, they are written to the student starting in grade 5.

I bought the LAH books and we'll just gnome it up, LOL! It's just for a season (or two). And yep, twins (!!!!) which is why we're looking for somethin as simple and child-directed as possible this year. We're starting right now so we can take a month or two off when the babies come in December.

Hmm.. just school through summer and take the same 2 months off we do down here in Australia? call it cultural awareness

Good luck with the LAH books, I'm honestly not surprised that the t4l wasn't a hit since you're currently very waldorf based... I'm guessing it was just WAY too different from the way things are now for them. I'm sure you'll find a happy medium though!

I'm actually a little disappointed. I was hoping it would be a good fix for the next year. Ah well...

that stinks. the good news is, it wasn't a very costly mistake, ykwim? we love T4L, but we don't use it anymore. i supplement our daily phonics with it & then we drop it (we're on a tight budget, so it's just $20 that can be better used elsewhere each month). i actually dropped it for my ds last month though, as reading eggs emailed me and gave me access til mid august for free. can't beat that! i hope you find something that works well for you all
