My DD was nine months old the first time we rode on a plane. She did remarkably better than I ever imagined she would!
Mostly, she just nursed and slept. We had a very long layover (it was snowing) and while I got hungry and cranky, baby wasn't phased at all.
I did bring a sippy cup with water along, because of how drying the air is in planes.
Other than that, I just brought along a few of her favorite toys.

The most important tip I got when I took DD on a plane was: nursing on the take off helps...and nursing on the landing is important. A baby will tolerate being held in Mom and Dad's arms all day long, no problem!...ear popping is the problem for the little ones...so be sure to nurse often.
