Tomorrow is my anniversary

It's tradition to get my hair cut on my anniversary. My stylist just called to cancel my appointment (emergency). No one else in town can fit me in tomorrow.

So, when dh wakes up, I'm giving him the bad news: He has to do it. Or else I do. (I don't know who'd do a better -or worse- job.)

It's long and straight, past the middle of my back now, and I hope it ends up between chin and shoulder length (and EVEN). Thankfully I can still donate to Locks of Love, I just have to mail it myself.

So, any tips...? I regularly cut dh's hair, but he's strictly clippers-- and I don't want clippers anywhere near my head

What I figure is that I can always get it fixed up at a later date by a professional. (As a SAHM I'm not saying I am unkept but I can be if I want to be

) But if I can get it right the first time at home, that's even better!

Dh cuts my hair, and then I mess around with it a bit if there's something amiss. I go from just below my ears, to a bit shorter, to shoulder length, all kinds,lol. We cut it dry first, I do it shorter underneath because of how I style my hair (like it all curving under mostly). I have a few shorter layers. It's hard to describe how to do this, we just experimented and it worked, I even cut my Mom's hair (took off a good 4 inches and gave her layers) last time she visited a couple weeks ago! After the dry cutting, I shower and then we clean it up while it's wet. Use good scissors. I couldn't find my haircutting scissors this morning so we used my fiskars that I use for fabric,hehe. Sorry I'm no real help, it's so hard to describe how we cut my hair..so haphazard it seems,lol. My hair looks good at the end though!

Thanks for the links Persephone. I think the haircutting link will come in very useful. And I appreciated your honesty about LofL, I think it's important that be posted so people know the truth. In my case, I'm going to cut it regardless, so it's either the trash (NO!), I keep it (tho I'm trying to stifle those packrat tendencies), or donation. I have a family member with alopecia and have seen the struggle first hand, so if I can even TRY to help, I want to!

I'm eating my words, yummy! After cutting off my braid I got an attack of courage, grabbed the clippers and now every hair on my head is (about) one inch long.
