**update** She went into labor lastnight, and it did end with a csection after 13 hours of labor. She has a beautiful baby boy, and is doing great! Thanks for all of your help ladies!!!**

I posted here earlier this week, and i just thought i would come here and see if anyone had any tips.

Basically my BF was due on the 18th(her original due date) now they want to do a csection MONDAY! She said that the baby has not dropped, and she is desperate to get him to. She absolutely does not want a csection and is scared to death.

She is going to see a chiro tomorrow, and sees an acupuncturist already,and had been using the birthing ball. What else can she do?

When would you consider a baby to be overdue to where she needs a csection?

They are saying that he is measuring big 9lbs, and they just dont think that she has the pelvis room to let him drop.

I definitely wouldn't consider a c section for an over due baby until at LEAST 2 weeks over due. I carry all my babies 8 days late and never drop until I go into labor. Big babies are also no big deal usually. Fat is squishy. What matters is the size of the babys head and you really can't control that.

Um...never? I've never had a client be recommended for c/s for postdates. Induction, plenty, but never straight to c/s.

Aaaugh!! 9lbs is a good, healthy size, but hardly a giant. (Also, late ultrasounds can be way off.) Not all first babies drop before the onset of labour. Subsequent babies usually *don't* drop before the onset of labour.

Chiropractic is a great idea to help ensure her pelvis is lined up and able to provide optimal space for her baby. You can't tell whether a baby will fit until you've tried putting a particular baby through a particular pelvis. She can refuse a c/s if they're not going to provide her with a reason better than "big baby". If she goes ahead and the baby comes out 7lb8 they're all going to feel rotten about it.

She may want to add a massage and some visualization work to her regime. Fear tightens the muscles and can make it harder to birth. Also, Monday is a looong ways away in baby time. Remind her that she has lots of time to go into labour on her own.

that said there is oftena reason baby hasn't dropped. sometimes b/c baby just isn't ready to drop until right before labour (or during). why? who knows... I'm sure it has it's reasons.
other ideas are baby is malpositoned. this doesn't mean it can't be born in this position but it does often mean a longer gestation as body tried to work it out - and a longer labour. (I'm dealing with this personally right now - ugh!)

there are some wasy to bring baby into a new position. I don't know if she knows what position her baby is in or not...?

that said it's a real shame to have a woman threatened with a c/s!! how can one expect to have their body work in it's timing when it's being pressured from outside to birth NOW!! it's a very unnatural thing. like when you're a kid trying to do some homework and a parent stands over your shoulder and says "if you don't get that answer right then you're goign to fail!". immediately the body gets stressed and tensed... and well trying to let a baby turn and engage is all about relaxing...not tension.

That surprises me. I would think they would talk about induction before c-section. My babies didn't drop until I was near or at 10cm dilated. The first time the doctor was concerned but as soon as I hit 10cm they all dropped. I can't understand any doctor using that as a reason to perform a c-section.

My Bradley instructor compared it to handing a cup to a man in the middle of a crowded room, having everyone to look at him, and then demand that he pee in it. NOW. That kind of helped the dads in the class understand.
